Pirka was a municipality with 3288 inhabitants (as of October 31, 2013) southwest of Graz in the Graz-Umgebung district of the federal state of Styria . Since January 1, 2015, it has been merged with the municipality of Seiersberg as part of the Styrian municipal structural reform , the new municipality is called Seiersberg-Pirka .

Geographical location
Pirka is located in western Styria , at the northern end of the Kaiserwald , about five kilometers southwest of the provincial capital Graz in the Graz Basin . A popular local recreation area is the Windorf pond near the village of the same name.

history
The districts of Pirka and Windorf were first mentioned in 1265 as "Pircha" and "Windendorf". In 1865 the municipality of Pirka was founded. At that time Pirka, Windorf and Bischofegg belonged to the Archbishop of Salzburg .

Pirka is located directly at the Graz-West junction, where the A 2 south motorway and the A 9 Pyhrn motorway intersect. The closest junctions are Seiersberg (188) on the Pyhrn Autobahn in about two kilometers and Unterpremstätten (188) on the Süd Autobahn in about four kilometers. Packer Strasse B 70 runs through the municipality from Graz to Klagenfurt .
The Graz-Köflacher Railway runs through Pirka , but there is no train station in Pirka. The closest train stations on this route are Premstätten-Tobelbad about four kilometers away and Straßgang about two kilometers away. They offer hourly regional train connections to Graz and Köflach or Deutschlandsberg . The central station Graz is about ten kilometers away.
The distance to Graz Airport is about ten kilometers.

Municipal council
The municipal council consisted of 15 members and, since the municipal council election in 2010, has consisted of mandates from the following parties:
mayor
Mayor was Horst Göttfried (SPÖ) from 1991 until the end of 2007. Heimo Hofgartner (SPÖ) was elected mayor on January 4, 2008. On March 11, 2009, Andreas Grauf (SPÖ) was elected the new mayor of Pirka in the municipal council, after the incumbent mayor Heimo Hofgartner unexpectedly resigned from his position at the end of January 2009 for professional reasons.
Most recently, until the dissolution of the community on December 31, 2014, Thomas Göttfried was mayor (SPÖ).

The municipal coat of arms was awarded with effect from March 1, 1977.

Personalities
The Renner-Buben (Austrian flight pioneers) lived in the villa of today's Bohr company in Windorf. Across from their former residential building, a street was named after them "Rennerweg".
