history

The Knights of Preuenstaette were first mentioned in a document in 1179. In 1448 Jörg Saurau received permission from King Friedrich (later Emperor Friedrich III ) to build the tower and castle stables as Oberpremstätten.

In 1532 the Turks invaded Styria under Sultan Suleyman I and destroyed large parts of the country - including Unterpremstätten. In the following decades, Unterpremstätten became increasingly important as the home of the Premstätter wagons, who overtook the city wagons until the Graz country coaches organized themselves in 1660 and displaced the Premstätter wagons .

Together with the high-yielding arable and field vegetable cultivation, the clay production in the Premstättner Falzziegelwerk ensured an economic boom in Unterpremstätt from the late 19th century . Brick production was one of the most important branches of industry in Unterpremstätten until the second half of the 20th century. At the end of the 1990s, the nationally known cult club Kuahstoll opened its doors.

In 1761 Premstätten was raised to an independent parish. The school mentioned in 1639 became a parish school in 1761.

Population development

With a population increase of almost 25% in the last ten years and an increase of 50% in the last 20 years, Unterpremstätten is one of the fastest growing communities in Styria.

Two event halls were built on the grounds of the leisure center, under whose roofs, as well as in the open air, concerts, sporting events and political events took place. The International Garden Exhibition IGS took place on the grounds of the Schwarzl Leisure Center in 2000. In 2007, 2009 and 2010 the SeeFestTage was celebrated there. The four-bay nave from around 1750, with a cross vault on wall pillars, has a simple baroque character. The high altar and the side altars from the period between 1760 and 1783 already reveal the spirit of the Rococo . The tower with its baroque hood is from the beginning of the 16th century.
