As part of the Styrian municipal structural reform , Sankt Marein bei Graz was merged with the municipality of Krumegg and the municipality of Petersdorf II (at that time in the district of Southeast Styria ) from 2015 . The basis for this was the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act - StGsrG. The boundaries of the districts of Southeast Styria and Graz-Umgebung were changed so that the new municipality lies entirely in the Graz-Umgebung district.

The former municipality of Petersdorf II was in the Feldbach district until the end of 2012 and had the vehicle code "FB". From the middle of 2013 to the end of 2014 license plates with the abbreviation “SO” were assigned, since 2015 it has been “GU”.

coat of arms

With the merger of the three municipalities, the coats of arms of the merged municipalities lost their official validity. The first municipal coat of arms for Sankt Marein bei Graz was awarded with effect from July 1, 1966. The blazon (description of the coat of arms) read:

"In a black shield there is a golden, curved tip that extends to the upper edge of the shield , which is covered with a blue lily and accompanied on both sides by an inward-facing golden crescent ."

Here the name of the parish church and the market town was designated by the lily as a symbol of the Mother of God. The golden crescents in black are taken from the coat of arms of the Lords of Gleispach, who held Pirkwiesen Castle in the 16th century.

A new municipal coat of arms for the merged municipality was awarded by the Styrian state government with effect from June 15, 2020.

The changed blazon reads:

"In the red shield there is a golden, curved tip that extends to the upper edge of the shield and is covered with a blue lily, on the right two silver posts, covered with a silver bar, in which an adjoining bar in the color of shadows is tinned on both sides, on the left silver and upright an inward-facing Gothic key . "

The new coat of arms has thus combined elements from all previous municipalities.
