Maria Lichtenegger
Maria Lichtenegger (born August 4, 1906 in Sankt Marein near Graz ; † July 8, 1923 there ) was an Austrian Catholic, for whom the beatification process was initiated in 1956.
Life
Maria was the only child of Wilhelm (carpenter and later mayor) and Aloisia Lichtenegger. Even as a child she showed extraordinary piety , was extremely gifted with voices and eager to sing, and an avid member of the church choir. She attended the elementary school in her home village and performed above average. After finishing school, she worked in her parents' house. Very early on, she took the vow of virginity for the sake of the kingdom of heaven . In May 1923 Maria Lichtenegger fell ill with severe nerve inflammation, which was followed by meningitis and pneumonia as well as partial deafness.
In 1956, the Catholic Church initiated the beatification process .
