Vasoldsberg is a market town in Styria with 4598 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020), southeast of Graz , Austria .

geography

Vasoldsberg is located about 10 km southeast of the provincial capital Graz in the Eastern Styrian hill country . The municipality is located in the Graz-Umgebung district or in the Graz-Ost judicial district in the state of Styria . The community is crossed by numerous streams in the catchment area of ​​the Mur and extends at an altitude of 330 to 511  m above sea level. A.

The municipality was divided into three localities until 2020:

  • Premstätten including Birkendorf, Birkengreith, Fuchsgraben, Kolmegg, Schemerlhöhe, Schemerltal, Steinberg, Tiefernitz, Wiesental and Zehentberg

  • Wagersbach including Aschenbach

Since 2020 the municipality has only consisted of one village.

The community consists of three cadastral communities (area as of December 31, 2019):

  • Wagersbach (478.42 ha)

history

Vasoldsberg Castle, which existed at the beginning of the 13th century, belonged to Prince Duke Leopold VI. , whose liege Ull the Vasoldsberger had his seat here. In 1219 he belonged to the duke's entourage and was involved as a witness in a sale of goods carried out in Vienna, the document of which is the first mention of the Vasoldsberg area. Since the second half of the 18th century, Vasoldsberg Castle , to which the castle was expanded in the 16th century, played the role of an administrative center for 13 surrounding cadastral communities as "district rule". The three tax communities of Breitenhilm , Premstätten near Vasoldsberg and Wagersbach merged in 1849 to form the municipality of “Premstätten near Vasoldsberg”. It has been called Vasoldsberg since the name was changed in 1947.

  • Vasoldsberg Castle was built in the 13th century and was owned by the Bishops of Seckau until 1428 . However, they had to give the castle to the sovereign Friedrich III. submit. In 1542 he had the castle converted into a palace in the Renaissance style. In 1628 it fell to the Baron von Herberstein and later changed hands frequently, u. a. it served as a rest home for Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG until 1987 . Today the castle is privately owned.
  • Klingenstein Castle is located in the Premstätten district. It was created in the second half of the 17th century. The castle is privately owned. The castle park is under nature protection due to its old and rare trees .
  • The Klingensteiner Achteckstadl , the symbol of the municipality, stands out with its brick ornaments and was the first rural barn in Austria to be listed as a historical monument ( list entry ).

Vasoldsberg is not on any of the main roads, but is easily accessible.

Street

The south autobahn A2 from Vienna to Graz can be reached in about 9 km via the Laßnitzhöhe junction (exit 169). The Graz city area is about 5 km away via Kirchbacher Straße B 73 (connection to Hausmannstätten).

bus and train

There is no train station in Vasoldsberg. Both the Southern Railway and the Styrian Eastern Railway cannot be reached directly, so Graz Central Station is about 17 km away and is the cheapest option. In addition, Vasoldsberg is connected to Graz and the neighboring communities via regular buses .

The Graz Airport is about 12 km away.
