location

The castle is located northeast of Hausmannstätten on an elongated, steeply sloping hill ridge that stretches from the Ferbestal to the Kerscheck.

history

The castle developed from a farm that was owned by Ulrich Chlingsteiner in the first half of the 16th century. In 1626 the farm was founded under Regina Globnitzerin born. from Greissenegg expanded into a noble seat. After the Globnitzerin emigrated because of her Protestant faith, her husband Hans Albrecht sold the noble farm together with the Vasoldsberg rulership to the Stainz monastery . Christof Moritz Freiherr von Herberstein received the Klingenstein residence back in 1635 after he was able to reverse the exchange of goods. He passed Klingenstein on to his stepson Johann Gabriel Freiherrn von Maschwander, who sold it to his mother Maximiliana Freiin von Herberstein in 1637. At this point in time, the Globnitzer had not yet received the sales proceeds, sued them and had the ramshackle dominion seized. Only after a settlement in 1645 was Maximiliana Freiin von Herberstein allowed to keep Klingenstein. Johann Friedrich von Sartori had the residence expanded in 1676 after it came into his possession through a redemption after a new pledge. As a result, there were multiple changes of ownership. Klingenstein Castle has been owned by the Carli family since 1959, and they restored the building, which had fallen into disrepair during the occupation.
