In 1991 he graduated as an agricultural engineer and in 1992 as Mag. Theol. completed his studies and received his doctorate in 1996 with distinction as Dr. theol. on the topic of "Mythological structures in the entertainment industry" using material from George Lucas' Star Wars trilogy and various AD&D computer games (Ultima, Ultima Underworld and Doom). He has been an agricultural master since 2000 and qualified as a professor in 2004 in the field of fundamental theology in the field of fundamental theological ecclesiology .

Wessely has been married since 1992 and has two children. He is a member of DONALD and an honorary member of the Academy of Donaldischen Sciences.

specialization

According to his own world of experience, Wessely's basic approach is practice-oriented. Aligned with the goal of a broad people's church, he takes a firm stand against internal church elite thinking and explicitly advocates seeing the presence of the church among the people and among the people as the responsibility of the church and not as the debt of the people to collect. The term “people” is very broad and includes not only what Wessely calls “sacred” within the church, which is defined by the “basic functions of the church” (Diakonia, Leiturgia and Martyria, linked in Koinonia) on the one hand and in the “Notae Ecclesiae” (unity, holiness, catholicity and apostolicity) outlines the space outside of this outline, which he describes as “profane”, whereby the former is intended to “fray” in the latter and make the profanum a fanum through its presence .

His endeavors on the one hand to translate the language of systematic theology for everyday use and on the other hand to address problem areas known to him from his practice as a deacon in the religious experience of everyday human life, made him one on the basis of fundamental liturgical acts - fundamentally based on sacraments, sacramentals and time-bound feasts design a simplified introduction to fundamental theology. The volume is designed as a quick reference for (formally or factually) distant people, interested parties and members of other religions. Despite its breadth of topics, it does not replace a fully elaborated fundamental theology, e.g. B. for study purposes.

Wessely's specialization in dealing with audiovisual media and computer games makes him a conversation partner for non-university institutions. Together with Daria Pezzoli-Olgiati, he has published the Journal for Religion, Film and Media (JRFM) since 2015 .
