Colin Williams

Colin Williams (* 1952 ) is a British Anglican theologian. From 2005 to 2010 he was general secretary of the Conference of European Churches (KEK or CEC). Since 2015 he has been Archdeacon of the Anglican Church for Germany and Scandinavia.

Live and act

Colin Williams studied law at Oxford and worked as a lawyer in Wigan until he decided to study theology at Oxford. In 1981 he was ordained a minister in the Anglican Church of England . He was pastor in the community service in Liverpool and in Poulton-le-Fylde and in the meantime, from 1984 to 1989, Domestic Chaplain of the Bishop of Blackburn .

From 1999 to 2005 he was Archdeacon ( Archdeacon ) of Lancaster in the Diocese of Blackburn. In this office he devoted himself particularly to strengthening ecumenical cooperation. He was also archdeacon a. a .:

  • Member of the Meissen Commission, whose aim is to further develop the links between the Church of England and the Evangelical Church in Germany
  • Member of the General Synod of the Church of England
  • Member of the Council for Christian Unity ( Council for Christian Unity ) of the Church of England

In 2005, Williams was elected general secretary of the Conference of European Churches , based in Geneva, to succeed Keith W. Clements . His tenure ended in 2010.

Subsequently, from 2010 to 2015, he was the leading minister ( Team Rector ) of the Anglican congregations in Ludlow and the surrounding area.

In 2015 he was appointed "Archdeacon for Germany and Scandinavia" based in Frankfurt am Main in the Anglican diocese in Europe .
