The Diocese in Europe ( Diocese in Europe , completely The Diocese of Gibraltar in Europe ) is the 42nd diocese of the Church of England . It includes all European and some neighboring countries except the United Kingdom and Ireland . The administrative seat is London , but the current bishop , Robert Innes , chose Brussels as his official seat .

history

English congregations abroad existed on mainland Europe even before the Reformation . They were placed under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of London in 1633 .

In 1842 the Church of England established the Diocese of Gibraltar for the European Mediterranean countries . For Central and Northern Europe, the Bishop of London appointed a suffragan bishop in 1883 with the title of Bishop of Fulham . Both jurisdictions have been administered jointly by a bishop since 1970. In 1980 they were combined under the current name.
