List of the Bishops of Reading
The List of Bishops of Reading represents the episcopal titleholders of the Church of England , the Diocese of Oxford, in the Province of Canterbury . The title was named after the city of Reading .
Jeffrey John was named bishop of Reading on May 20, 2003 . John's nomination sparked controversy in the Church of England and the Anglican community . For many years John has been involved as an LGBT activist. On July 6, 2003, John waived a nomination for the episcopate and cleared the way for Stephen Cottrell.
