Röthelstein is a cadastral municipality and a place of the municipality of Frohnleiten in Styria in the Graz-Umgebung district with 193 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
It was an independent municipality until January 1, 2015 and was merged with the municipalities of Frohnleiten and Schrems near Frohnleiten to form the new municipality of Frohnleiten as part of the Styrian municipal structural reform .
Röthelstein is located about 25 km north of the provincial capital Graz in the Graz-Umgebung district . The Mur flows through the area with Röthelstein on the west bank. The highest point of the cadastral community is the Schiffall ( 1221 m ).

The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to the Reichsgau Steiermark, 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria. On January 1, 2015, it was merged with the communities of Frohnleiten and Schrems near Frohnleiten to form the community of Frohnleiten.

Economy and Infrastructure
The Bruck expressway S 35 runs through the area from Graz to Bruck an der Mur . It can be reached via the Röthelstein junction. There is an orphaned motorway service station in the direction of Graz .
The Austrian Southern Railway ran through the municipality, but there is no train station in Röthelstein. The closest train station is Mixnitz - Bärenschützklamm about four kilometers away. There are hourly regional train connections to Graz and Bruck an der Mur.
The Graz Airport is around 50 kilometers away.
