The Gamsgraben is a village in the area of the cadastral municipality of the same name in the municipality of Frohnleiten in the Austrian state of Styria . The Gamsgraben has 29 residents (as of January 1, 2020) on an area of 1566.17 hectares, and the Gamsbach and Hirzybach also flow through the hamlet.

Most of the area consists of alpine pastures and forests, most of which belong to the Goëss-Saurau baron family based in Frohnleiten . This also includes some small properties and the Hochalm hunting lodge . The Gamsgraben is often a starting point for hikers in the region, and there are mushroom slopes and forests here, from Mayr-Melnhof itself. The Gamsgraben gravel road leads from the Pöllagraben junction over the Hochalpe to Leoben , but a large part of the forest path is no longer open to traffic. The Gamsgraben was, thanks in part to the influence of Mayr-Melnhof, one of the settings in the Heimatfilm Echo der Berge , published in 1954 . A forest railway ran in the Gamsgraben between 1925 and 1950 . This led from the Gams over the Gamsgraben to the Roßstall , a waypoint on the route to Göss . At the moment there are only a few remains of this forest railway. The Gamsgraben is six kilometers from the center of Frohnleiten.
