The Gepringbach (also the Gepring ) is a left bank tributary of the Kainach in the Austrian state of Styria . The stream rises in the municipality of Seiersberg-Pirka , flows through the Kaiserwald and flows into the Kainach as Horätzbach .

course

Horätzbach near Dietersdorf

The source of the Gepringbach lies on a meadow in the Gedersberg district on the southern roof of the Plabutsch-Buchkogel range . After the settlement area, the brook crosses the Hagenbuch and Bischofegg forests and enters the Kaiserwald on Packer Straße west of the Windorf pond . On almost untreated course of Gepringbach crosses the lines of GKB and South Highway and a detention basin ( Gründlandbiotop ) before it leaves the forest and the municipality Dobl-Zwaring reached. The stream is regulated for the next 2 km .

The Horätzbach, as the flowing water from Dobl- Unterberg is called, runs largely parallel to the Kainach over agricultural areas and passes the villages of Fading and Dietersdorf on the Kainachboden. It flows into the Kainach to the southwest of Zwaring .

Hydrology and hydrogeology

Along with the Poniglbach, the Gepringbach is the most important natural body of water on the Kaiserwaldterrasse . Both streams contribute to the recharge of the groundwater , proof of this was provided by hydrochemical investigations at the Gepringbach . In contrast to the Poniglbach, it cuts not only into the gravel body, but also into the tertiary subsoil. When crossing under the motorway, the creek is about 10 m deep, at Dobl it is already 17 m deep.

In the lower reaches there are occasional floods that interact with those of the Kainach. A flow rate of 9.3 m³ / s was modeled for a five-year flood (HQ 5 ) , the value for HQ 100 was determined to be 29.2 m³ / s.

fauna

Especially in the Kaiserwald, the Gepringbach shows a largely natural, meandering brook that is home to some aquatic animals. Strudelworms , caddis fly larvae and river flea shrimp live there on the bottom . In addition, there are the fish species brook trout , brook trout and brook lamprey . The dragonflies and river maid species typical of rivers also find a suitable habitat. Between Unterpremstätten and Dobl, an area of 6.5 hectares was placed under protection in 1981 as a "species-rich, extensively used grassland biotope".

In June 2014 there was a major fire in the waste material recycling center of the Saubermacher Dienstleistungs AG in Unterpremstätten , which is in the immediate vicinity of the brook bank. During the fire fighting, the fire fighting water got into the Gepringbach, which resulted in the formation of foam crowns up to 2 m high . The lack of oxygen caused fish to die .
