The garage

The garage is an event hall with an attached restaurant in Saarbrücken . It is located in the listed buildings of the former central garage , a workshop and garage operation from the interwar period . The large garage was designed in the forms of New Building and New Objectivity .

history

The central domed building with the adjoining halls and the representative access building at Bleichstrasse 11-15 was built in 1924 by the architect Carl Burgemeister as a large garage , car workshop and body shop for vehicles of various types. From the mid-1930s onwards, Auto-Industrie GmbH specialized in the sale and repair of Ford models, which is why the nickname Ford Garage quickly became established.

After the Second World War, when Saarland came under French administration, Simca vehicles were also offered and repaired in the hall , and the Saarland general agency for the Vespa scooter brand was opened. With the time of the economic miracle , Ford expanded and moved to other locations. At the beginning of the 1980s, the empty hall began to be used for parties and concerts, in 1989 it was converted into an event center and since the mid-1990s it has been regularly opened to parties, festivals and concerts.
