Minotauri was a Finnish doom metal band from Äänekoski that was formed in 1995 and split up in 2007.

history

The band was founded in 1995 by guitarist and singer Ari Honkonen, who previously worked for Morningstar . The first line-up included other Morningstar members. A first demo was recorded in the same year. The band was quiet until 1997. This year drummer Viljami Kinnunen joined the band. The Ax Attack demo followed . After a friend took over the bass, the next demo, Metal Magic , followed in 1998 . Then Tommi Pakarinen joined as bass player. In the summer of 1998 the band made their first gig and a live demo was released. The band wrote new songs, gave a small tour of Finland and released the live demo Doomed to Live in 1999 . After the demo Devil Woman was released in January 2000, the group reached a contract with the German label Iron Bonehead Productions . In the same year the band recorded the single Pain of Life / Violence and released it in the same year, with a limited edition of 500 copies. In addition, the band also re-recorded the song My Way , which was previously included on Devil Woman , to release it on the sampler At The Mountains of Madness II by Miskatonic Foundations . The band then wrote more new songs and recorded the EP Doom Metal Invasion in 2001 . Before the release of the sound carrier in spring 2002 via Iron Bonehead Productions, the band had held a small tour with Reverend Bizarre and Spiritus Mortis . The last concert of the tour was also recorded and released as a live album under the name Funeralive . In the summer of 2003, the group recorded their self-titled debut album, which was released on Black Widow Records in the summer of the following year . The sound carrier consisted of eight new songs, as well as the single Pain of Life / Violence and the EP Doom Metal Invasion as a bonus . During the recordings for the album, the song Black (Magic) Triangle was also created , which was used for a split release with Reverend Bizarre. The release appeared in the spring of 2004 on Metal Coven Records . The second album II followed in 2007 , before the group broke up in the same year.

style

On II, according to Grigoris Chronis from metal-temple.com, the band plays Doom Metal with influences from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and from bands like Witchfinder General , early Saint Vitus , Cathedral , Pentagram and Candlemass . The bass is distorted , while the vocals sound chaotic. The production was oriented more towards heavy metal and reminded me of Black Sabbath and Pagan Altar . The Doom Metal sound sounds so old that other bands in the genre, such as Solitude Aeturnus and Count Raven , would sound too modern by comparison.
