I Hate Records is an independent label founded in 2000 .

history

Peter Lidén and Ola Blomkvist founded I Hate Records in 2000. Both of them were previously networked as music journalists and fanzine writers in the Swedish metal scene and brought their respective priorities into the direction of the label. While Lidén was responsible for the acquisition of groups from Thrash , Death and Black Metal , Blomkvist tried to find performers from the various directions of Doom Metal . Blomkvist cited the reason for initiating the label that he and Lidén wanted “to give a voice to those who really deserve to be heard through the cacophony of commercial crap.” Accordingly, he describes the label's catalog as pure Underground.

The first release was the vinyl EP Hellucination by Sargatanas Reign , a Morbid Angel- oriented death metal band. In the following years the label became a popular label of the Doom Metal spectrum through releases from groups such as Jex Thoth , Pagan Altar , Abysmal Grief , SubRosa , Lord Vicar and Evoken . The label established itself in thrash and extreme metal with releases by groups such as Nifelheim , Mayhemic Truth , Vulcano , Space Eater and Minotaur .

In 2008 Blomkvist ended his participation in I Hate Records for professional, financial and family reasons. Since then, Lidén has managed the label alone.

“[T] this had mainly to do with my family situation. It was just no longer possible to go on. The problems were very profound and I just couldn't take care of 'I Hate' the way I should have done with the bands. They were the ones who suffered from it. I couldn't bring the two together anymore.… Besides, I have a full-time job, because with 'I Hate' I didn't earn a tired mark. "

- Ola Blomkvist

Business policy

Until Blomkvist left, a planned release had to convince both label operators. Since Lindén and Blomkvist brought different interests into the company, each group was discussed in advance with the intention of convincing the other party. As a result of this ongoing exchange, Blomkvist sees a high ridge quality.

The label only concludes contracts for the release of albums. The production of smaller publications happens without contracts by mutual agreement. Trust and honesty in cooperation are important to the label. Blomkvist and Lindén informed the contracted groups in advance about the label's financial limits.
