Space Eater is a Serbian thrash metal band from Belgrade that was formed in 2004. Its name goes back to a song by the band Gamma Ray .

history

Space Eater emerged from the group After Life after they broke up. Space Eater was founded in October 2004 by singer Boško Radišić and guitarist Stanislav Šaršanski. Later guitarist Nemanja Pavlović and bassist Karlotest as well as drummer Nikola Roglić, who was previously active in After Life, joined the band. Together they developed some songs and recorded them. They then took part in the “Radio 202 Demo Masters Tournament” and reached the semi-finals there. Due to a fan who broke his leg while moshing and the resulting police operation, the band could not finish the concert, which meant that they could not reach the final. Nevertheless, they were allowed to appear as guests in the final, which was broadcast nationally from Studio 6 on Radio Belgrade .

In 2005, the band reached third place in the “ Zaječarska Gitarijada ”, one of the oldest and largest competitions for rock bands without a contract. In March 2006 the band released the demo Bombs Away! . The demo was recorded again in Studio 6. The demo was named demo of the month in the Serbian Metal Hammer .

In early 2007 the band signed a contract with the Swedish label I Hate Records . The debut album Merciful Angel was released in August of the same year. The following year the band played only occasionally, as four members had to do their military service. In January 2009 the band recorded another demo and looked for a label to release it. On June 3, the singer Radišić and his sister died. In January 2010 the band signed a contract with Stormspell Records (including Amulance , Invection and Immaculate ) and rehearsed for the new album from April to June. They also played various gigs, the biggest of which was at the Exit Festival . The album Aftershock was released in August 2010.

style

On their Myspace page, the band gives classic bands mainly from the Thrash Metal area, such as Testament , Agent Steel , Forbidden , Lääz Rockit , Heathen , Overkill , King Diamond , Exodus , old Metallica releases, Iron Maiden , Sepultura , Vio -lence , Angel Witch , Megadeth and Anthrax , as their main influences. The band is based on classic, US American Thrash Metal of the 1980s. Inhonorus from stormbringer.at writes that Space Eaters are not only influenced by the Bay Area Thrash scene, but also by Teutonic Thrash Metal. Space Eater would even give the music a “makeover” due to their “complex song structures and extremely strong variety”. In the album review for Passing Through the Fire to Molech , Inhonorus also recognizes similarities to newer Thrash Metal bands such as Warbringer or Fueled by Fire .
