Nifelheim is a Swedish black metal band.

history

Nifelheim 2009 at the Hole in the Sky Festival

The band was founded in 1990 by Demon and twins Erik "Tyrant" and Per "Hellbutcher" Gustavsson in Dals Långed in Bengtsfors municipality . Shortly thereafter, the guitarist Morbid Slaughter joined them. Together they made their first demo recording, Unholy Death , in 1992/1993 , which was very well received by the specialist press and brought the band several offers from record labels. They released their first two albums in 1994, shortly after Morbid Slaughter was kicked out, and in 1997 on Necropolis Records . Jon Nödtveidt and John Zwetsloot from Dissection played the guitars on both albums .

In 1996 the band recorded the Vulcano cover Witches Sabbat with guest vocalist Goat (ex-Satanized) for the second part of the split EP series Headbangers Against Disco , which also featured Usurper and Unpure , and the song Hellish Blasphemy for the film Gummo ; the piece was re-recorded for Nifelheim's second album Devil's Force , with Zwetsloot and Nödtveidt again helping out.

In August 2000, the third album, Servants of Darkness , was released through Black Sun Records, and the band first performed live at the 2Heavy4You Festival. In the same year the EP Unholy Death was released by Primitive Art Records. This could only be obtained from the band itself. Part of the edition was smeared with human or goat blood before it was sold. In the following years one best-of and two split releases were released. In addition, numerous appearances and tours, some as headliners, took place all over Europe. On November 19, 2007, the new album Envoy of Lucifer was released .

style

Nifelheim's style differs from that of other bands in that it remains unaffected by modern trends and sounds more like bands from the 1980s such as Hellhammer , Bathory or Venom . So it's pure so-called old-school black metal, which is reflected in the band's demeanor (especially on Envoy of Lucifer ), especially in the tendency to long hair, leather clothing with a large amount of leather Rivets, chains, etc.

Nifelheim plays extremely dark music without the intention of creating something echoing.

The lyrics are about topics like Satanism , Hell , Destruction and Death, Sodomy , War and Dictatorship.
