Jon Nödtveidt (2005)

Jon Nödtveidt (born June 28, 1975 , † August 13 or 16, 2006 in Stockholm- Hässelby ) was a Swedish musician and satanist . He became known as the guitarist and singer of the Swedish black / death metal band Dissection , which he founded in 1989.

biography

In 1988 Nödtveidt founded the thrash metal band Siren's Yell with Peter Palmdahl, Ole Öhman and Mattias “Mänke” Johansson . This was dissolved in the spring of 1989 after Öhman's departure. In the summer of 1989 he became the second guitarist in the thrash metal band Rabbit's Carrot, in which Öhman also played. Both left the band after a short time. In the same year he published the first edition of his fanzine Mega Mag . In autumn 1989 Nödtveidt founded Dissection with ex-Siren's Yell singer Peter Palmdahl, in spring 1990 Ole Öhman, who was involved in both bands, joined the group as drummer. Nödtveidt had good contacts to the Norwegian black metal scene and became a member of the local "Black Circle".

In addition to Dissection, he participated in other bands and projects. In 1991 the Dissection side project Satanized recorded a demo, in 1992 and 1993 Nödtveidt worked under the pseudonym "Rietas" with The Black, in 1994 as "Shadow" on the debut album A Journey in Darkness by the band Ophthalamia , which later also his brother Emil participated under the pseudonym "Night", the Nifelheim debut Nifelheim and the demo of the grindcore project Terror, in which he played together with musicians from At the Gates .

In 1995 he joined the Misanthropic Luciferian Order (MLO), which had recently been founded. Contrary to popular belief, Nödtveidt was neither founder nor co-founder of the order, but was familiarized with the MLO through friends at an early stage. 1997 Nödtveidt and the rest of the band Dissection split up due to internal conflicts. In the same year, the band Soulreaper emerged from parts of dissections . In the same year he played together with his then roommate Damien (from the bands Midvinter and Apollgon) and Dan Swanö the album Symphonia De Infernali of the De Infernali project . He also appeared as a guest singer on the Necrophobic album Darkside , on which he sang the song Nailing the Holy One , and played guitar on the Nifelheim album Devil's Force .

In December 1997 Nödtveidt was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was sentenced to ten years in prison for complicity in the murder of Josef Ben Meddaour, a 37-year-old homosexual Algerian, and illegal gun possession; Vlad, member and head of the Misanthropic Luciferian Order, was convicted as the main culprit. The Dissection website stated that Meddaour was killed out of anger for molesting the perpetrators. During his incarceration, Nödtveidt wrote the lyrics to Sound the Horns of Reprisal for the album The Dark Blood Rising (The Hatecrowned Retaliation) by Diabolicum , worked on new Dissection titles and became a member of the Werewolf Legion, a gang formed in prison that worked with the Close to MLO and responsible for extortion, violent crime, robbery and drug trafficking in the southern Sweden area.

Unlike other black metal musicians like Bård “Faust” Eithun from Emperor and Thorns or Maurit's “Hellchrist Xul” Jansen from Funeral Winds , it was “not his way of showing off his actions”; he did not talk about the murder, possibly “out of consideration for the victim's family and friends”. He noted that there was no way he could change his past, but he would draw his conclusions from it.

2004 Nödtveidt was on probation discharged and introduced a completely new line-up Dissection on their feet. He described Dissection as the "sound propaganda unit" of the MLO and directed the band accordingly; The band's last album, Reinkaos , which Nödtveidt released after his release, is decisively shaped by the ideology of the MLO, the lyrics contain passages from Liber Azerate , written by Frater Nemidial, Master of the MLO . Bård "Faust" Eithun, whom Nödtveidt knew from the early 1990s, originally wanted to join Dissection, but left the band immediately due to the satanic concept that Eithun could not stand behind. Both because of the murder in which Nödtveidt was involved, as well as the views of the MLO, which this calls "anti-cosmic Satanism", Nödtveidt and the band were controversial in the metal scene. Nödtveidt distanced himself from right-wing extremist ideas that were often assumed by the band and described racism and nationalism as a herd mentality for mentally weak people.

In August 2006, Jon Nödtveidt killed himself with a shot in the head at the age of 31; his death was announced on August 18, 2006. His body was found in his apartment in Hässelby and was lying in a circle of candles together with a satanic grimoire, according to former Dissection guitarist Set Teitan .
