Bård Guldvik Eithun (born April 21, 1974 ), also known by his pseudonym Faust , is a Norwegian drummer. In 1993 he was arrested and sentenced to 14 years in prison for murder. He has not been detained since 2003.

Life

Beginnings

In 1987 Eithun came into contact with the young black metal scene through correspondence with Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth from Mayhem and Alex Colin-Tocquaine from Agressor . He began international correspondence with musicians from Necromantia , Samael , Merciless and Sarcófago, among others . Out of the enthusiasm for this scene experience the fanzine Orcustus - The Shadow of the Golden Fire , which consisted of a mixture of interviews with befriended musicians and occult , magical topics. He made his first musical experiences as a drummer with the thrash metal group Decomposed Cunt and the black metal band Stigma Diabolicum, which renamed itself Thorns in 1991 and made several demo recordings. In 1992 Eithun moved to Oslo and joined Emperor shortly before founding member Håvard "Mortiis" Ellefsen left. The first release with this group was the EP Emperor , later also available as a split with Enslaved . He then played the EP As the Shadows Rise and the debut album In the Nightside Eclipse .

Murder and imprisonment

In August 1992 Eithun visited his mother in Lillehammer. On the way home from a restaurant, he was approached on August 21, 1992 by a drunk, homosexual man named Magne Andreassen, who wanted to go with him to what would later become the Olympic Park . Eithun apparently accepted the suggestion and lured the man deeper and deeper into the forest. He stabbed him there with a knife and left him bleeding in the park.

Initial police investigations showed no progress and Eithun remained at large for about a year. It was not until 1993 when the first church arson was started by members of the Norwegian black metal scene that the police's attention was drawn to Eithun. After Varg Vikernes killed Aarseth, the police also investigated other crimes in the scene. A witness finally testified to the police that Eithun had killed Andreassen. She eventually arrested Eithun, who confessed to the murder on the advice of his lawyer. He was eventually sentenced to 14 years in prison.

While Faust was serving his prison sentence, he remained connected to the black metal scene. He wrote the text for Bloodsoil for the band Zyklon B and the lyrics for the cyclone first album World ov Worms , published 2,001th A Cadaver Inc song also contained a spoken passage from him. In addition, numerous fanzines, such as the Slayer magazine from Norway and the Finnish magazine I Return to Darkness , published interviews with Eithun. There are also some racist , nationalist and Islamophobic quotes from Eithun from this time , which led to the right-wing extremist scene in Germany trying to co-opt the musician. For example, an article in the comradeship magazine Der Förderturm appeared under the heading Freedom for Bard “Faust” Eithun . In prison, Eithun imitated his school leaving certificate and studied the history of ideas . In 2003, Eithun was released after nine years in prison.

Since 2003

Shortly after his release from prison, Eithun joined Dissection , but according to his own statements, he was no longer able to represent the group's satanic concept and left the same year. Today Eithun is musically active in the groups Aborym , Blood Tsunami, Scum and Mongo Ninja and participates in several projects. He now lives in Oslo and has had a son since 2007. He is married to a Brazilian woman and distances himself from racism; according to his own statement, he "never had racist or homophobic views".
