Scum is a hardcore punk / black metal band that was formed in 2002 by former band members from Amen , Emperor , Zyklon and Turbonegro . All band members except for the singer Casey Chaos , who comes from the USA, are Norwegians. Contrary to the rejection of the ideals of the hardcore scene in early Black Metal, drummer Faust said: “The connection between these people is not that surprising […]. Black metal, punk and hardcore have similar attitudes. ”He also refers to the punk influences in black metal pioneers such as Bathory , Celtic Frostand Venom , "even if that is sometimes due to the lousy production and poor playing skills".

Her single Protest Life , released exclusively in Norway, and her album Gospels for the Sick were recorded in a single studio session in September 2004. The band has only had a few live appearances so far, one at the Norwegian Øya Festival in summer 2005 and one at Camden Underworld in London. Other artists such as Mortiis and Nocturno Culto also had guest appearances with the band .
