Zyklon-B was a Norwegian black metal band that existed from 1995 to 1999. The name of the band refers to Zyklon B , originally developed as a pesticide , which was used in gas chambers during the Nazi era ; the band pointed out in the booklet for the EP and in interviews that they were apolitical.
The band consisted of Tomas "Samoth" Thormodsæter Haugen ( guitar and bass ) and Vegard Sverre "Ihsahn" Tveitan ( keyboard ) from the band Emperor , Kjetil "Frost" Haraldstad ( drums ) from Satyricon and Björn "Aldrahn" Dencker Gjerde (vocals) from Dødheimsgard . The band only recorded a single eleven-minute EP , to which the then imprisoned ex-Emperor and Ex- Thorns drummer Bård G. Eithun contributed the lyrics to Bloodsoil . The three tracks on it were also released on a split with Swordmaster. The piece Warfare was released in 1999 in a different version under the name Total Warfare (Sea Serpent Remix) on a split with Mayhem . This remix is also included on re-releases of the EP.
Zyklon-B played a consistently fast form of Black Metal with subtle keyboard use and without the screeching vocals that are common in Norwegian Black Metal bands .
From 1998 to 2010 guitarist Haugen played in the now defunct band Zyklon .
