The Misanthropic Luciferian Order (also Misantropiska Lucifer Orden , abbreviated MLO , German: ' Misanthropic - Luciferian Order') is a religious order based in Northern Europe , which describes its worldview as " Chaos - Gnosticism " or "Anticosmic Satanism ".

history

The order was founded in 1995 and has since been renamed the Temple of The Black Light . Contrary to popular belief, the order was not founded by Jon Nödtveidt ; nor was he the co-founder of the order, but was introduced to the MLO at an early stage through friends. Magister Templi of the MLO is Frater Nemidial.

As a result of the imprisonment of several MLO members, an organization called the Werewolf Legion (WL) was formed in 1999. Although this consists mainly of non-Satanists, it works closely with the MLO. The MLO, which was founded in Sweden, now also exists in Norway and the Netherlands, where, according to MLO member Noxifer, the WL is also to be established.

Worldview

The MLO regards itself as a Chaos - Gnostic Order, which according to its own admission creates a synthesis between the "dark traditions of the Old Aeon" and in this way wants to open the gate for "the endless dark age". In the MLO, three paths are studied in more depth: the Cliffothic Kabbalah , Sumerian Chaos Gnosticism, and Draconian Setianism . The elements of the Sumerian religion relevant to the MLO include the Babylonian creation myth Enûma elîsch , but the focus is on all traditions that work with dark powers and lead to gnosis and spiritual transcendence via the path to the left hand . These include currents from Egyptian , Persian , Vedic , Nordic and Hellenic spiritual practice, and some members of the order work with traditions borrowed from the Afro-Brazilian quimbanda and South American death cults .

According to the MLO, creation was preceded by a disordered and chaotic darkness which, due to its limitlessness, exists infinitely and forever. The cosmos, the universe bound to space and time, is, according to the MLO, the creation of a demiurge in which the “black flames” that are part of the original chaos are trapped. The “Black Flame” is the pre-cosmic, uncreated spirit and the power within the enlightened and strong, which leads them to strive for the pand-dimensional chaos that is the origin of all things.

The MLO therefore takes a negative attitude towards the status quo . In summary, this means that the MLO is in principle directed against everything that belongs to "creation" - be it man himself or all moral norms and values, accordingly also society itself and its laws. From its anti-cosmic position, the MLO derives a complete rule and lawlessness. Rules and laws are not only part of creation and therefore only intended to subjugate the “dark light”, but also a product of the weak ( hylikoi ) who have to protect themselves from chaos. From this the order derives a position against society and emphasizes that one must strive to become "enemy number one" of society. The order derives its misanthropic position from the assumption that most people have no will to free themselves from the slavery of creation, as well as the fact that humans are part of creation.

The MLO sees its task on the one hand in gaining gnosis (in the sense of "knowledge") through study and practice and ultimately "to free the dark light from matter". On the other hand, the magical philosophy of the Order is aimed at bringing disharmonies and chaos into creation and thus returning the universe to its origin, the chaotic and limitless darkness.

The MLO, which avoids the public, attaches great importance to the statement that it is not officially looking for any connection to black metal bands, but on the other hand does not deny that a significant proportion of the MLO members are black metal musicians.

Symbols of the order are an interrupted pentagram , which according to Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmanns (from the magazine Rock Hard ) rendering by Carlos Aguilars (a Chilean tattoo artist) explanations for “breaking the cosmic order, creation, breaking all laws, breaking the cosmic cycle ”. Another symbol is a black snake, which represents the "power of chaos" and stands for a black dragon. The number code "218" stands for 2 + 1 + 8 = 11 and refers to eleven satanic forces.

Luciferic Satanism

A central concept in the MLO is the figure of Lucifer (Bringer of Light), who illuminates the “blind man” with the “light of darkness”. This light can be found in the enlightened one again as a so-called "awakened black flame", which is comparable to the pneumatic spark of the Gnostics , or also the "inner light" of the enlightened one , which is independent of the "blinding illusion" of the creation that encloses him. He who recognizes the “chains” of creation and actively frees himself from them is called “awakened”. While numerous satanic beliefs see Lucifer and Satan as two different forces, for the MLO they are two words denoting different aspects of the same spiritual force; so there is also the double name "Lucifer-Satan" with him.

Relationship to the metal scene and other groups

At the beginning of the 1990s, members of the MLO, which was not yet founded, were in contact with the Norwegian Inner Circle; The order member Tenebris stated in an interview with the Slayer - Fanzine that at the time it was more about ideological than practical Satanism, but this connection meant a lot throughout its existence, but only existed thanks to Euronymous and was pleased with him. Many of the people involved have since betrayed their ideals and lost interest.

However, in the 1990s there were conflicts between the MLO and all other satanic and black metal groups in Sweden; According to Lord Ahriman of Dark Funeral , the members of the MLO did not tolerate any group other than their own. About the Swedish organization True Satanist Horde of the Abruptum founder IT, Tenebris says that it had nothing to do with true Satanism and that when the MLO approached it in 1995, it was not interested. The Order of Nine Angles and its subsections are the only satanic organization supported by the MLO; The order is vehemently differentiated from the atheistically oriented Church of Satan , the Temple of Set that emerged from it and from a Satanism based on the inversion of Christianity. In addition, the MLO works closely with the Werewolf Legion, which was formed in 1999 and consists mainly of non-Satanists, and there are links to the American Order of vampires.

In the same year Jon Nödtveidt of the black / death metal band Dissection became a member of the MLO, in which he has since held a prominent position. This connection made the MLO known in the metal scene . Nödtveidt named the band several times as the "sonic propaganda unit of the MLO" . Together with Vlad, member and head of the Misanthropic Luciferian Order, Nödtveidt was involved in a murder in 1997. The band's last album, Reinkaos , which Nödtveidt released after his release, is decisively shaped by the ideology of the MLO, the lyrics contain passages from the Liber Azerate written by Frater Nemidial and were written by him and Nödtveidt.

As part of the coverage of Jon Nödtveidt's suicide, Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann from Rock Hard magazine tried to interview members of the MLO who, according to their own statements, rejected him every time. However, a spokesman for the MLO said that Nödtveidt's death had nothing to do with the contents of the MLO, nor that this had any effect on the further direction of the order. In addition, the speaker who was not known by name made the following statement:

“The fact that some of our supporters play in bands doesn't change the overall character of MLO. The underground music scene has no official links to MLO. "

- quoted from Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann

The report also quotes the Chilean tattoo artist Carlos Aguilar, who, according to Mühlmann, is a supporter of the MLO.

But some members of the extreme metal scene also keep their distance. Sun declined Bård G. Eithun , convicted murderer and former drummer of Emperor , a collaboration with Dissection from, as he the concept of the group in connection with the ideology of MLO as to "directly and hateful" ( "direct and hateful") perceive and this would no longer fit his current view of life.

The MLO raises the same accusation against a large part of the Black Metal scene as against the True Satanist Horde and is therefore hostile to it. He emphasizes that most of the members of the Order have no relation to this subculture. However, some other members also spread the ideology of the MLO through their bands, for example Arckanum and Shaarimoth . Drakul Azacain, guitarist of the band Disiplin , renamed himself "Drakul-218", separated from the rest of his line-up because they did not belong to the MLO and he wanted to align Disiplin accordingly. In the meantime, however, he has turned to pagan and right-wing extremist ideology, renamed it "Eihwaz WeltenFeind" and joined the band on the Pagan Front.

Bands like NCO and Watain support the MLO, but the musicians do not belong to it. The band The Devil's Blood was inspired by the MLO without the musicians being MLO members.
