Abruptum is a Swedish band formed in 1989 .

history

1989-1996

The band was founded in 1989 by Tony "IT" Särkkä and Jim "All" Berger, who also worked together on Vondur and War , and was supplemented by Ext in 1990. With this line-up, the first demo cassette Hextum Galaem Zelog was recorded in the same year . After its completion, Ext was kicked out of the band due to personal differences and shortly thereafter - still in 1990 - the second demo The Satanist Tunes was completed.

In 1991 the EP Evil followed (later re-released under the title Psychoslaughter ). Some time later All had to leave the band because of massive alcohol problems and was replaced by Morgan "Evil" Steinmeyer Håkansson from the then still young Swedish black metal band Marduk . With this line-up, the album Obscuritatem advoco amplectère me followed in 1993 and the album In umbra malitiae ambulabo, in aeternum in triumpho tenebraum , in 1994 , both on Deathlike Silence Productions . Without Evil's participation, the album Vi sonus veris nigrae malitiaes followed in 1996 . In 1997 IT left the black metal scene.

Since 2000

In 2000, however, Evil decided to continue Abruptum alone and in the same year released the EP De profundis mors vas cousumet , which consisted partly of old (1991) and previously unreleased, partly of newly composed pieces, Evil with the latter, entirely like with the album Casus luciferi that followed in 2004 , stylistically largely broke new ground.

After Evil announced the breakup of Abruptums in 2005, he announced the release of another album for autumn 2005, which was to be titled Maleficent . The release date was initially postponed to February 20, 2006, but the album has not yet been released.

In particular, because Abruptum has always been primarily IT's intellectual child, critics note that the continuation of Abruptum on the part of Evil is mainly due to financial considerations. Until 1996, fans of the Abruptum era mostly disapproved of later releases.

An album called Potestates Apocalypsis has been announced for 2011 and will be released through Evil's Blooddawn Productions and Regain Records .

IT passed away on February 14, 2017. The ITs sister announced that she did not want to comment on the death of her brother.

style

Abruptum's compositions fall back on gutturally generated screams and typical (Black) Metal instruments (which are only played to a limited extent in the traditional sense), but are hardly related to music in the sense of tonal harmony, so that they are also considered a kind of “anti -Music ". The classification as Black Metal is therefore viewed as controversial. According to the statements of its founder, IT, this is quite intentional: Euronymous had called Abruptum "The Audial Essence of Pure Black Evil" (in German: "The acoustic essence of pure, black evil"), IT saw this description as appropriate and insisted that Abruptum wasn't a band and didn't play music.

Infused with extremely annoying sound stimuli, bizarre metallic background noise and overdriven, seemingly inhuman screams, the works of Abruptum create an extremely dark mood that can be attributed to Death Industrial .
