Tony Särkkä

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tony Särkkä (born December 15, 1972 in Stockholm , Sweden ; died February 8, 2017 ), better known by his pseudonym IT , rarely IT Särkkä , was a Swedish multi-instrumentalist of Gypsy, Finnish, and Indian descent. He was the creative mind behind the black metal bands Abruptum , Ophthalamia , Vondur and War . In 1998 he announced his exit from the black metal scene. In 2001 he founded the band 8th Sin instead.

Life

Around 1983, Särkkä founded his first band Witches Sabbath at the age of eleven. In 1988 he adopted the pseudonym "IT" and founded the project Abruptum , which mixes black metal and death industrial with Jim "All" Berger . The following year they founded the band Ophthalamia , in which IT's friend Alexandra "Axa" Balogh also played. He was also the singer of the band Thrash Metal / Crossover -Brejn Dedd, in which Dan Swanö was also involved. In 1990, IT founded the True Satanist Horde.

In 1991 Morgan "Evil" Håkansson from Marduk joined Abruptum. Together they created the first album Obscuritatem advoco amplectère me , which consisted of just two songs, each 25 minutes playing time, and the second album In Umbra Malitiae Ambulabo, in Aeternum in Triumpho Tenebrarum , which only had a 60-minute track. Both appeared on Deathlike Silence Productions , Oystein's label "Euronymous" Aarseth . After the murder of Euronymous by Varg Vikernes , Abruptum was also featured on the tribute sampler Nordic Metal - A Tribute to Euronymous . In 1997 he left Abruptum and left the project to Håkansson.

Parallel to Abruptum, the band Ophthalamia was formed, which existed until 1998 and released several albums. In 1993 Särkkä also founded the side project Vondur with All, and also founded the black metal supergroup War with David "Blackmoon" Parland and took part in their EP. In addition to his own band activities, IT can be heard as a guest singer on Dissection's album Storm of the Light's Bane and Marduk's Opus nocturne .

In 1997 IT left the black metal scene. He spent several years in Asia and founded the band 8thSin with Michael Bohlin around 1999/2000 after his return, which mixes Nu Metal , Groove Metal and Synth Rock . The name of the band stands for the union of the seven deadly sins into one; the eighth sin represents the sin of creating sins. The band released three albums through Black Lodge between 2004 and 2013 .

On February 14, 2017, Särkka's sister "Desire" published a Facebook post on her brother's account in which she reported about Särkka's death. Contrary to the first reports, the date of the Facebook comment is not the date of his death. Särkkä died on February 8, 2017, as his sister later corrected. She has been managing his musical estate ever since. His cause of death is so far unknown. In the years before his death, he worked on his previously unpublished autobiography, which he announced in 2010 that he was likely to die soon.

additional

Tony Särkkä saw himself as a satanist in the 1990s and liked to stylize himself with his band colleagues as the true satanic underground of Sweden. Among other things, he expressed sympathy for the various church arson foundations committed by parts of the Norwegian scene in the early 1990s. In fact, he took Satanism seriously. So he founded the satanic circle The True Satanist Horde , which lasted a few years. Tony Särkkä also announced several times that he would avenge the death of Euronymous. He stated that he only founded the band War in 1995 to raise money for a contract killing of Varg Vikernes. After leaving the metal scene, he fell away from Satanism and described himself as areligious until his death.
