Ophthalamia was a Swedish black doom band from Stockholm founded in 1989 .

history

In 1989 the band was founded by Jim "All" Berger and Tony "IT" Särkkä from Abruptum .

All initially took over the vocals, but was replaced in 1994 by Jon "Shadow" Nödtveidt ; Erik "Legion" Hagstedt (temporarily Marduk singer) took over the microphone for this , but was replaced by All in 1998. For Benny “Winter” Larsson, Ole “Bone” Öhman took over the drums from the third album. Emil “Night” Nödtveidt, Jon Nödtveidt's brother, took over the guitar for Robert “Mourning” Ivarsson, Mikael “Mist” Schelin (later with Malign ) played the bass. Alexandra "Axa" Balogh, who was IT's girlfriend, sang on the first two albums, recorded a piano outro to Via Dolorosa and made drawings for the band, got a contract with Necropolis Records , but the planned album under the project name Rhiannon never appeared .

In 1998 the band released their last album so far, Dominion , which was thematically based on MacBeth .

On July 6, 2006, Tony Särkkä announced that he wanted to record a new Ophthalamia album.

style

Ophthalamia is the fantasy world devised by IT and all, whose goddess is the demon Elishia; IT calls Elishia an ophthalmic Satan . Almost all songs tell about this world. The stories such as Castle of No Repair or The Eternal Walk were told in episodes spread over several albums.
