Ani and Nia Sulkhanishvili

The twin sisters Ani and Nia Sulkhanishvili (* 1988 in Tbilisi ) form an internationally active piano duo . From Georgia coming pianists living in since 2012 Munich .

Life

The identical twins Ani and Nia Sulkhanishvili were born in 1988 in the Georgian capital Tbilisi . Her musical talent showed at an early age, although her parents were not musicians. They received piano lessons , but only got enthusiastic about four-handed piano playing at the age of 13. In Tbilisi they received lessons at the Z. Paliashvili Central Music School with Lali Sanikidze and then studied at the State Vano-Sarajishvili Conservatory in Tbilisi. In 2012 and 2013 they each received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and continued their training at theUniversity of Music and Theater in Munich with the piano duo Yaara Tal and Andreas Groethuysen .

Career

After their debut as a duo at the Tbilisi International Young Pianists Competition in 2003, where they won 1st prize, the international career of the two artists began. They won other prizes at competitions in Athens , Moscow , Monaco and Białystok . One of the duo's greatest successes was winning the 2nd prize at the ARD International Music Competition in 2015.

Numerous invitations have taken her to the USA, where she performed in the Carnegie Recital Hall in New York , to Mexico, Hungary and Norway. In the Czech Republic they played in the Rudolfinum in Prague , in Italy with the Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai in Turin and in Germany in the Herkulessaal in Munich.

Repertoire (selection)

The repertoire of the duo Sulkhanishvili ranges from pieces played for four hands to music for two pianos. These include Beethoven's original works for piano four hands, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Andante con Variazioni Op. 3a , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's KV 357, KV 358, KV 381, KV 497, KV 521, Spanish love songs (for one and more voices with accompaniment of the piano for four hands), Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto for Two Pianos BWV 1060 , Béla Bartók's Sonata for two pianos and percussion and Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, version for two pianos and percussion .
