As Duo Tal & Groethuysen , the Israeli pianist Yaara Tal (born February 27, 1955 in Kfar Saba ) and the German pianist Andreas Groethuysen (born September 2, 1956 in Munich ) are among the most famous contemporary piano duos internationally .

Yaara Tal trained in Israel with Ilona Vincze and Arie Vardi before moving to Germany to complete her studies with Hugo Steurer and Ludwig Hoffmann . Andreas Groethuysen, son of Herbert Groethuysen , studied with Ludwig Hoffmann and in London with Peter Feuchtwanger .

Since 1985, the two occur worldwide as a piano duo and were since then in the major centers of musical life (z. B. Concertgebouw Amsterdam , Philharmonie Berlin , Teatro alla Scala , Tonhalle Zurich ) and at prestigious festivals (such as the Ruhr Piano Festival , Piano Festival La Roque d´Anthéron , Salzburg Festival , Lucerne Festival ).

In addition, they have made a name for themselves internationally through numerous CD productions. With the Sony Classical label , they have not only released recordings of key works of the piano duo literature since the late 1980s, but have also devoted themselves to lesser-known composers. They have received numerous awards for their recordings, including nine times the German Record Critics' Prize , five times the Echo Klassik and the Cannes Classical Award . In 2018 they received the Schwabing Art Prize .

The duo has been teaching at the Mozarteum in Salzburg since the winter semester of 2014.
