Harald Eggebrecht (* 1946 in Helmstedt ) is a German journalist, author, critic and publicist.

Life

Harald Eggebrecht is the son of the writer Jürgen Eggebrecht (1898–1982) and the pianist Elfi Eggebrecht, b. Stiehr (1905-2000). His brothers are the Egyptologist and director of the Roemer and Pelizaeus Museum Hildesheim , Arne Eggebrecht (1935-2004), and the cellist and Munich Philharmonic Jörg Eggebrecht (1939-2009).

Eggebrecht studied literature, musicology and art history in Munich and Berlin, and received his doctorate in 1978. From 1981 to 1987, he was initially cultural editor of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk . Since then he has been working as a freelance writer for the media, especially for the Süddeutsche Zeitung . From 1995 he realized the series Die Große Geiger on Norddeutscher Rundfunk. Eggebrecht is the author of publications on Goethe, Karl May , Sergiu Celibidache, Philipp Otto Runge , Henri Rousseau , Ludwig II, among others . He was a juror in international music competitions (ARD competition, Munich; Gradus ad Parnassum, Vienna; Louis Spohr competition, Weimar , Joseph Joachim Competition, Hanover; Leopold Mozart Competition, Augsburg). He was also a lecturer in Weimar, Salzburg and Würzburg. His books on great violinists (2005) and great cellists (2007) are considered standard works.

Eggebrecht is the author of the classic video column Auftakt on the Süddeutsche Zeitung's online presence. Together with Sten Nadolny and Michael Winter he wrote the serial novel Das große Spiel under the pseudonym Percy Warberger , which appeared in the features section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung in 1994/1995.
