Arckanum was a Swedish black metal band from Mora . The only permanent member of the band was Johan "Shamaatae" Lahger, who wrote almost exclusively old Swedish lyrics for Arckanum.

history

Arckanum was founded in 1992 by Johan "Shamaatae" Lahger, who previously acted as drummer in Conquest / Grotesque (the predecessor band of At the Gates ), as well as Sataros and Loke Svarteld. Shamaatae had previously founded a death metal band called Absorption with his brother Sataros, which was later renamed Disenterment. After the unpublished demo recording of Disenterment, the band played about 20 concerts, among others with Unleashed and Unanimated . In 1993 Arckanum's first demo, Demo-93, was released . It is the only demo on which the two musicians Sataros and Loke participate before Shamaatae decided to continue his project alone. In a later interview, he referred to the two founding members Sataros and Svarteld as guest musicians. In 1994 the demo Trulen was released , on which Sataros can be heard in Bærghet , but which was otherwise completely recorded by Shamaatae. In the years 1995 to 1998 Shamaatae published the first three albums Fran marder , Kostogher and Kampen on Necropolis Records ; the also planned album Faunaz Samgang was never released. In the following years various splits and EPs were released, before a new album with Antikosmos was released by Debemur Morti Productions in 2008 ; this contains parts of the material written for Faunaz Samgang . The 2009 album ÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞ was the last release on Debemur Morti Productions, the following album Sviga læ was released in 2010 by Regain Records .

style

Arckanum play a melodic, atmospheric black metal style. While the first two albums were mostly shorter, based on the simple guitar playing of Bathory , Kampen is made up of overlong and epic songs. On this album there are many folkloric melodies and vowels based on shaman singing. The folk shares were later reduced again. This can be found in the music also Crustcore - / Punk - / doom metal conditions influencing the fate, thrash metal elements and death metal - riffs .

background

Lyrically, Arckanum deals with chaos - gnosticism in the style of the Swedish black / death metal band Dissection , which dissolved in 2006 ; like Dissection, Arckanum is also close to the Misanthropic Luciferian Order . Shamaatae states that his greatest sphere of influence is anti-cosmic Satanism and his “personal magical experiences with the ancient Norwegian runes , magic and powers”. He is partly inspired by Aleister Crowley and the chaos magic according to Peter Carroll . Furthermore, figures from Greek and Germanic mythology , such as the god Pan or the trolls , are mentioned in his texts. Hence the band was mistaken for pagan.
