Unanimated is a death metal band from Stockholm , Sweden .

history

The band was formed in 1988. The first demo followed the following year . With the second demo Unanimated was able to negotiate a contract with the Swedish record label No Fashion Records . Although the publication was overall positive after the reviews of the trade press, the band remained an underground tip. This was mainly due to the small record label and the fact that the albums were released exactly at the time when death metal was at its absolute lowest point in commercial terms. The band broke up after the second album in 1996 due to internal quarrels. The individual members then concentrated on various other bands, e.g. B. Dismember , Entombed , Dark Funeral , Merciless or Nifelheim . In 2008, the band reformed itself with a large part of the old line-up and performed their first live appearance in 12 years on August 8, 2008 as part of the Party.San Open Air (PSOA) in Bad Berka . On this occasion, the band also announced that they would like to release a new album entitled In the light of Darkness (The Covenant of Death) via Regain Records .

Music style and lyrics

On the debut album In the Forest of the Dreaming Dead , the band combined “the native Death Metal invented by Nihilist with the raw original Black Metal of Venom , Bathory , Slayer and Mayhem [...]. So they should have developed into a role model for many youngsters who picked up their idea and are now taking their laurels. "For Robert Müller from Metal Hammer , the debut was" rather mud ", which is why Ancient Gods of Evil " doesn't really interest him at first " have; However, the successor to suggest "admirable loosely into the admittedly very trendy Black Metal-notch Clearly swedish-style, reminiscent of Dark Funeral and Dissection ." Götz Kühnemund from Rock Hard described the style as "melodic, black-colored, uncompromising Sweden-Death Metal works ”; his colleague Andreas Stappert described it as "without a doubt one of the best and most groundbreaking records that Swedish Death Metal has ever produced". The band couldn't beat this with In the Light of Darkness , but it was "[t] the most typical trademark, that is, the ever-present closeness of Death Metal, characterized by dominant guitar melodies, to original Black Metal of the Venom and Bathory brands, [ ...] has been preserved, so that the new pieces all sound subliminally threatening ”. Accordingly, the texts are based on dark topics, occultism and satanic philosophy.
