Nihilist was a Swedish death metal band.

history

The band was founded in 1987 by the later Entombed members Nicke Andersson and Alex Hellid as well as the bassist Leif "Leffe" Cuzner. At first she called herself Sons of Satan , after the Venom song of the same name , and, according to Andersson, changed the name more often than she rehearsed. Its last name before renaming it Nihilist was Brainwarp . In March 1988 the band recorded Premature Autopsy at Studio Z in Stockholm ; Mattias Boström is named as the singer on the supplement to the demo recording , but he did not participate in the recordings. Andersson no longer remembers the background, but suspects that Boström came to Nihilist shortly after the recording and was therefore performed, but never really sang in the band and never performed with it. He suspects that Morbid drummer Lars-Göran "LG" Petrov took over the vocals in full (Petrov and Ulf "Uffe" Cederlund, also with Morbid, are listed on the insert as guest singers and guitarists).

On December 8 and 16, 1988, the band recorded in Tomas Skogsberg's Sunlight Studio Only Shreds Remain ; Cuzner now played the second guitar, Johnny Hedlund took over the bass and Petrov the vocals. Shortly after the recording, Cuzner had to leave the band when his parents moved to Canada. As a replacement, Cederlund, whose band Morbid had broken up, became a permanent member.

In August 1989 the band recorded two tracks that appeared on a demo recording entitled Drowned and a single of the same name. In the same year the band broke up. Hedlund formed Unleashed , the remaining members formed the band Entombed a week after Nihilist broke up . A planned EP with Nihilist, Paradise Lost , Bolt Thrower and Carcass , which Metalion wanted to release and for which the song Morbid Devourment was recorded, never came about.

Music style and meaning

The band released only three demo recordings, but is one of the most important death metal representatives. It developed from a rather thrash-metal / hardcore -oriented sound with Slayer reminiscences to a darker sound and death metal riffs; The influence of the band Autopsy was probably responsible for the development towards Death Metal . The Nihilist recordings shaped the Sunlight studio sound, the typical sound of the guitars for the band was created with Only Shreds Remain by Leif “Leffe” Cuzner, who attributes this to his Hagström amplifier. Andersson leads the sound on Cuzners BOSS - Distortion back pedal and the untwisted there effects were reinforced so that the midtones.

The Nihilist recordings were released on bootlegs for years until they were officially re-released by Threeman Recordings. The release contained the song Morbid Devourment , the Repulsion Cover Radiation Sickness , a second version of Face of Evil , and the first Entombed demo recording But Life Goes On .
