Autopsy (English: 'Autopsy') is a death metal band from San Francisco , California , ( USA ).

Band history

The band was founded in 1987 by Chris Reifert, who had previously left Death , together with Eric Cutler and Eric Eigard. The band's main influences were Slayer , Death, Master and Terrorizer . After the first demo recording , Danny Coralles joined, while Eric Eigard left the band. After the two demos, the band got a record deal with Peaceville Records and released their debut album Severed Survival in 1989 . It was recorded and mixed within four days. Steve DiGiorgio von Sadus , a childhood friend of Chris Reifert, agreed to help out on the recordings as a bass player.

As a result, there were constant changes in the position of bass player , which caused difficulties for the band. The tour for the first album was played by Ken Sorvari as bassist. In 1991 guitarist Eric Cutler brought his brother Steve Cutler into the band. In this line-up, the EP Retribution for the Dead was recorded and Steve Cutler was released from the band afterwards. For the recordings for the EP Fiend for Blood , the band again borrowed Steve DiGiorgio before Josh Barohn (formerly Suffocation ) took over the position on bass in mid-1992. But he too left the band in 1993 after only one year and was replaced by Freeway Migliore. After the release of Shitfun , the band broke up.

In 1994 Chris Reifert, Danny Corales and Freeway formed the band Abscess . Reifert and Corales were also members of the band Ravenous, who released the album Assembled in Blasphemy in 2000 , along with Abscess guitarist Clint Bower, Dan Lilker ( Anthrax and others) and Frank "Killjoy" Pucci ( Necrophagia ) .

In 2004, an anniversary edition of the debut Severed Survival was published, for which the band had recorded two new songs in their last line-up, but when asked about this, Reifert explicitly denied a reunion of the band. In 2009 the band re-recorded two tracks that were included on the re-release of the 1990 album Severed Survival , and in late May 2010 Autopsy played at Maryland Deathfest . In July 2010, Awakened by Gore was released , a re-release of the demo recordings with bonus material. In August 2010 the band was one of the headliners of the German Party.San -Open-Air in Thuringia and the Norwegian Hole-in-the-Sky Festival. During these three appearances, bassist Dan Lilker should complete the line-up in addition to the last line-up . 2010 then a new release as published EP titled The Tomb Within about Peaceville Records. In 2011 the album Macabre Eternal was released, also through Peaceville, which received very positive reviews in the specialist press. In 2012 4 new tracks followed on a compilation ( All Tomorrow's Funerals ). In June 2013, the band released, again through Peaceville, the album The Headless Ritual .
