Necrophagia ( necrophagia , from Greek : νεκρός nekrós 'dead' and φαγεῖν phagein 'eat') was a death metal band from Ohio , USA .
history
The band was founded in 1984 by Frank "Killjoy" Pucci, Bill James, Larry "Madthrash" Madison and Joe Blazer. In the mid-1980s, Necrophagia was one of the very first death metal bands. From 1984 to 1987 the band achieved a high level of awareness in the tape trading scene. In 1987 she received a recording contract with New Renaissance Records, where the debut album Season of the Dead was released. In the same year, Necrophagia broke up. Ten years later, Killjoy let the band revive with new members. Among other things, Phil Anselmo from Pantera played guitar because of existing contracts with other record companies under the pseudonym "Anton Crowley". In 2001 there was another major line-up change. The band was most recently under contract with Season of Mist . The band strengthened itself again and again with guest musicians (such as Joey Jordison ) during studio recordings . The band was also known for their numerous DVD releases.
style
Necrophagia plays Death Metal with influences from Sludgecore and Stoner Metal . The band cites the Italian director Lucio Fulci , who made numerous zombie films in the 1970s and 1980s, as a particular influence on their lyrics . The band also uses sound sequences from the films as an intro or as background music for the songs.
A picture of the porn actress Jenna Jameson , who is a fan of horror and metal, appears in a booklet . She met Killjoy in the 1990s and is good friends with her. She also appeared on the DVD Nightmare Scenarios , where she shows the mano cornuta and shouts “Necrophagia rules!” .
