Antaeus is a black metal band that was founded in France in 1993. The band's slogan is: "Anti God, Anti Music, Anti You".

history

The band was formed in 1994 by Black Priest, Storm and Antaeus. Two demos were recorded in 1995 and 1996, during which time there were some changes in the line-up. The two currently active members, MkM and Set, joined the band in 1996 and 1998.

Her first album Cut Your Flesh and Worship Satan contained newly recorded songs from the demo recordings. For the second album De Principii Evangelikum , the band signed with Osmose Productions . The third album Blood Libels was again released by the Norma Evangelium Diaboli label.

In 2006 Antaeus and the German band Secrets of the Moon toured together, in 2008 the then Antaeus bassist LSK joined Secrets of the Moon.

None of the band founders are active in the band anymore.

style

On the first two demos, the band played more atmospheric Black Metal with keyboards and acoustic guitar. They later changed their style to raw, dissonant and chaotic Black Metal with Death Metal influences. Blood Libels was called "aggressive black metal with a pinch (or ten) of death metal thrown in". The album ends with the nine-minute long theme song Blood Libels , which was described as "so intense it's literally almost unbearable".

The band describes their own music as “Satanik Audio Violence” and states “black death metal acts from the late 80s early 90s” as influences on their Myspace page.

According to MkM, Black Metal has to be hateful and satanic , paying homage to darkness and everything that causes pain. Accordingly, the texts combine death and suffering in the form of self-injurious behavior with Satanism.
