Lord Vicar is a Finnish doom metal band from Turku that was formed in 2007.

history

Lord Vicar was founded by guitarist Kimi Kärki aka "Peter Vicar" after his band Reverend Bizarre broke up in 2007. The line-up was supplemented by the singer Chritus, the bassist Jim Hunter and the drummer Gareth Millstedt. The first EP The Demon of Freedom was released in 2008 via I Hate Records , which was recorded in London , Stockholm , North Carolina and Turku. In the same year, as well as in 2011 and 2016, the albums Fear No Pain , Signs of Osiris and Gates of Flesh were released . During this time, the group held numerous appearances and could be seen at the Doom Shall Rise in 2009 , the third Hammer of Doom in 2010 and the sixth Hammer of Doom in 2012, the Roadburn Festival in 2012 and the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival in 2016.

style

On the band's Facebook page, Black Sabbath , Led Zeppelin , The Who , Saint Vitus , Trouble , Pentagram , Witchfinder General and The Obsessed are named as influences. Sebastian Schilling from Rock Hard assigned the band to Doom Metal and felt reminded of Reverend Bizarre when listening to Gates of Flesh . The predecessor now contained even happier moments, as was the case with Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep of the 1970s. In an interview with him, Karki stated that both Reverend Bizarre and Lord Vicar have Black Sabbath origins. In addition, they tried to incorporate influences from classic rock and progressive rock . The central theme of Gates of Flesh is sexuality, especially lust. The songs would mostly be recorded by him as demos , with suggestions for the bass, vocals and for the lyrics that would be sent to the members. The drumming is written by Gareth Millsted. The final arrangement and the mixing will be done by all members together. Boris Kaiser had reviewed Gates of Flesh a previous issue . He called the music Doom Metal with inconspicuous songwriting. What is noticeable in the songs is the now high proportion of psychedelic rock , which is particularly evident in the quieter passages. The music is suitable for people who think Candlemass is too commercial.
