The large garage south in Halle (Saale) , built between 1927 and 1929, is a five-storey multi -storey car park with a car elevator and three transfer platforms. It is one of the last surviving examples of this type of mechanized elevation and horizontal displacement in Europe. In addition to the Stern-Garagen in Chemnitz (1928) and the Kant-Garagenpalast in Berlin (1930), the Großgarage Süd is one of the most important multi-storey car parks in Germany from the interwar period.

The building contractor and engineer Walter Tutenberg had the garage built in the south of the city at Pfännerhöhe 70, on the corner of Liebenauer Strasse. On four garage floors, three of which were accessed by elevator, it offered space for 150–160 vehicles. A large atrium provides the necessary light for the multi-storey car park , in which the automobiles were transported to the garages (the boxes ) on three transfer platforms until 1992 . As with many large and multi-storey car parks from the interwar period, the operating concept was designed to provide additional services and included repair, washing, courier and pilot services as well as a petrol station .

The multi-storey car park, which was extensively renovated between 2007 and 2012, is a listed building . Instead of the lift / transfer platform system, which was shut down by the TÜV in 1992, a new spiral ramp was built as an entrance and exit ramp to the garage floors. The owner and operator is Bauverein Halle & Leuna eG, a Halle housing association.
