Traumtänzer , the seventh studio album by the German medieval rock band Schandmaul . It was released on January 28, 2011 on CD , double vinyl and as an extended edition (contains the CD and a making-of DVD).

Cover

The cover shows the band with their instruments in a backlit field, so that only the outlines of the people can be seen.

content

Compared to other disgraceful albums, the album is very varied and open to experimentation. From a musical point of view it is very versatile, so there are less songs typical of Schandmaul used, but different styles of music are combined with folk rock. The song "Assassin", like the older songs "Tyrann" and "Sichelmond", is oriental and tells the story of an Arab assassin who is supposed to kill his beloved. "On the high seas" is similar to the "Seemannsgrab" from the Narrenkönig CD, as both (instrumental and content) have typical sailor elements. The use of a polka is new , so the song Pakt sounds completely new. In terms of content, the song tells of a lover who sells his soul to the devil (similar to the "Spielmann" from Wahre Helden ) in order to win over his loved one. But once the pact is made, he can no longer feel love for her himself. Most typical is probably the "oath", which reminds of the old shame-mouth pieces with the usual bagpipe sounds and rhythmic electric guitar.

There are unusually many quiet and mostly acoustic songs to be found, such as "Die Rosen" or "Mein Lied". Epic refrains are also frequently used, sometimes accompanied by an orchestra. Dream Dancer is the first album without an instrumental song.

A recurring element is the dream, which plays a central role in several songs. There are also frequent references to magic and alchemy ("Hexeneinmaleins" and "Der Alchemist").

The song "Geas Traum" is special because it tells an excerpt from the book Infinity - Der Turm by Wolfgang Hohlbein published in February 2011 . Schandmaulsänger Thomas Lindner has been a fan of Hohlbein's works since childhood and has already set some of them to music in the Schandmaul side project Weto. When the band asked for a collaboration with Hohlbein, it turned out that he was a sympathizer of medieval / folk music and especially Schandmaul. Schandmaul also shot her first official video for the song, which was first published on her website on December 24th.

particularities

The album was created in a one and a half year phase in which the band did not play concerts, so that the members could take care of their family life and the dream dancer more intensively .

The first 111 pre-orderers of the album and a concert ticket received their album autographed. The extended version contains a 115-minute film that was shot by bassist Matthias Richter.

On the occasion of the release, the band organized several release parties all over Germany, at which one had the opportunity to get autographs and photos from the band members and to talk to them.

Chart placements

The album entered the German Media Control Charts at number 4, at number 10 in the Austrian Top 75 album charts and at number 36 in the Swiss Top 100 albums.
