Sava is a folk music project by Birgit Muggenthaler-Schmack and Oliver Pade, which was founded in 2004 as a cooperation between the two folk musicians von Schandmaul and Faun and has also performed live since 2009.

The debut album Aire , released on November 22, 2004, contains mostly newly composed folk music with bagpipes , whistle , flute , harp , hurdy-gurdy , cister , nyckelharpa , jaw harp , violin and other, often historical instruments. In addition to pure instrumental pieces, the pieces with singing deal with natural mythical moods and legends from various, often originally Celtic, musical traditions. For the second album Metamorphosis , which was released on November 7, 2008, Oliver Pade largely withdrew from the composition for reasons of time, but remained in the studio alongside other guests as an important partner for Muggenthaler-Schmack for stringed instruments. By editing original texts, this steered the folk project more in the direction of early music than before. On May 25, 2012, the third album Labyrinth was released , in which Oliver Pade was no longer involved.

Today Sava is characterized by comparatively strongly structured pieces, mostly newly composed by Muggenthaler-Schmack, with elements of early music, but primarily in folk traditions of the British Isles, France, Scandinavia and Spain.

Birgit Muggenthaler-Schmack is the only permanent member of Sava. However, since 2009 she has been performing with a live band consisting of four other musicians from the Regensburg region , including as the opening act for Schandmaul. Live drummer Benjamin Kroll is also the drummer of the band Zwielicht .
