Robert "Bobby" Troy Kimball (born March 29, 1947 in Vinton , Calcasieu Parish , Louisiana ) is a singer and founding member of the US rock band Toto . He won six Grammys .

biography

In 1984 Kimball got out of the band Toto at the musical peak after giving his distinctive voice to four Toto albums. Immediately afterwards he founded the Far Corporation project in Germany together with Steve Lukather , Dieter Petereit , David Paich, Pit Löw, Harry Beierl, Mel Collins , Curt Cress , Simon Phillips and others. He then sang for numerous solo artists such as Leslie Mandoki and Al Jarreau , Frank Farian , Barbra Streisand , Richard Marx and Diana Ross .

Bobby Kimball lived in Germany for five years, mostly in and around Frankfurt am Main , his grandfather's hometown. Here he worked, among other things, with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, whose collaboration resulted in a record with newly arranged Toto songs.

In 1994 Kimball released his first solo album Rise Up , with Marcus Deml as a guitarist. "All I Ever Needed" followed five years later, which he recorded with numerous guest musicians in San Francisco . In the same year, after 15 years of absence and overcoming his cocaine addiction , he returned to the recordings of Mindfields to Toto, after he had been on a promotional tour for Toto's album Toto XX the year before (1998) . In 2002 the Toto album Through The Looking Glass followed .

Steve Lukather once commented on rumors that Bobby Kimball's real name was Robert Toteaux and contributed to the name of the band Toto : " No, that's a joke, that's a wank. Someone's pulling on your willie on that one. I remember years ago , making jokes about it, but it was never a legitimate explanation. "- Bobby Kimball's real name is Robert Troy Kimball and thus has nothing to do with the band's name.

In 2010 Kimball founded the band Yoso , which consists of members of the band Circa: which in turn is an offshoot of the band Yes . The band finally broke up in the summer of 2011. With Jimi Jamison , the singer of Survivor , he released the album Kimball Jamison with duets , which was released in October 2011 . In 2011 Kimball also supported the "Christmas Allstars" charity project in Rheine with his performance, where he interpreted pop Christmas songs. In 2012 he toured, including in November and December in South America. On the album Acoustic Fever by former Scorpions drummer Herman Rarebell , Kimball is a guest singer on the song Rock You Like a Hurricane .
