Circa: is an English-American progressive rock / AOR band. She has released four studio and two live albums to date.

history

When Yes in the "classic" line-up, consisting of Jon Anderson , Steve Howe , Chris Squire , Rick Wakeman and Alan White , was put on hold in 2004 due to Anderson's health problems, the other band members continued to work on solo and side projects. For example, Chris Squire briefly joined his reformed 1960s band The Syn , Alan White launched his band project White and Steve Howe has returned to the reformed Asia with its original line-up.

Billy Sherwood , who had worked with Chris Squire since 1990 ( Union ) (in the Chris Squire Experiment and Conspiracy ) and was a member of Yes from 1996 to 2001 (featured on Yes albums Open Your Eyes and The Ladder ) In the spring of 2006 a new collaboration with several members of the group was planned, including the former Yes guitarist Peter Banks .

While he was beginning to write his first songs with Tony Kaye , Alan White and Jimmy Haun, whom Sherwood had already met in his first band Lodgic and who was later to be heard on the Yes album Union , also joined the new formation.

The following year (2007) the debut album Circa: 2007 was released , which also includes two songs that Sherwood had originally written for Yes with Trevor Rabin . It was created in cooperation with all band members, it was produced by Billy Sherwood.

The DVD CIRCA: LIVE , which was released in February 2008, was also compiled from the recordings of the group's first live performance on August 23 of the same year . It contains live versions of all songs from the debut and a 40-minute medley of songs from almost every Yes album from Yes (1969) to The Ladder (1999).

On July 30, 2008, the band announced that Alan White had left Circa :. In the following he wanted to concentrate on his main band Yes. He will be replaced by Jay Schellen, who has played in Conspiracy and World Trade. The first album with bells - Circa: HQ - was released in 2009. This was followed by a joint tour with Bobby Kimball , on which pieces by Circa :, Yes and Toto were played; from this arose the joint band project "AKA", which was later renamed Yoso after a few line-up changes. After Yoso ended in 2011, Johnny Bruns (guitar) and - after Ronnie Ciago took over the drums for a short time - Scott Connor replaced the former Circa: members Jimmy Haun and Jay Schellen, who wanted to concentrate on other projects. In 2011, the third studio album And So On was released with this line-up .

In 2012 Rick Tierney took over bass.

style

Circa: play melodic rock with an AOR touch. The songs of the band are between one and over ten minutes long, which are quite typical for the genre. The musical style of the band is comparable to Conspiracy : Here, too, there are polyphonic vocal arrangements and only sparse progressive rock elements. Comparisons can also be made with other bands and albums in which Sherwood was and is involved.
