Jimi Jamison
Jimi Jamison (born Jimmy Wayne Jamison on August 23, 1951 in Mississippi , † August 31, 2014 in Memphis , Tennessee ) was an American adult-oriented rock singer and member of the band Survivor . His distinctive voice shaped the style of Survivor, including the song Burning Heart .
life and career
Jamison was born in rural Mississippi in 1951 and moved to Memphis , Tennessee with his mother shortly after he was born . He taught himself to play the guitar and piano and was a member of a band in middle school . He fronted the local band Target in the late 1970s, and in 1982 he co-founded and vocalist of the band Cobra .
1983 decided the singer of the band Survivor , Dave Bickler to leave the band due to vocal problems, and Jamison became the new singer of the group. In 1989, Jamison was asked by the hard rock band Deep Purple to take Ian Gillan's place as singer, as he had dropped out. However, since Jamison had just released his first solo album, When Love Comes Down (1991), his record label was against the move.
In 1993 he left Survivor and founded the band Jimi Jamison's Survivor, but they only had one hit with the title I'm Always Here - which was best known as the theme song for the television series Baywatch . From 2000 to 2006 Jamison was the singer for Survivor a second time. In 2007, Jamison founded The Jimi Jamison Band with former musicians Dave Smith , Jack Holder , Tony Black , Kevin Stewart and Pete Mendillo . In addition to the classics by Survivor, they also played new versions of tracks by the groups ZZ Top and his old bands Cobra and Target.
In early 2008, Jamison and Jim Peterik from Suvivor got together again and signed for a record with Frontiers Records . Their joint album was released on November 7, 2008 under the name Crossroad Moments . In 2010 her next album was released with the title Extra Moments. In the fall of 2011, the former lead singer of published Toto , Bobby Kimball , and Jamison together an album entitled Kimball Jamison . The album was released by Frontiers Records and was produced by the German music producer Mat Sinner ( Primal Fear ) from Stuttgart . Furthermore, Jimi and Fred Zahl produced the album HiStory by the band One Man's Trash, which also played on New Year's Eve 2011 in Berlin at the Brandenburg Gate at prime time and then the band toured in France, Holland and Germany. In November 2011 Jamison rose again as a singer with Survivor. In autumn 2012 another solo album was released with the title Never too Late.
On August 31, 2014, Jamison died of a heart attack at his Memphis home, aged 63 .

Jamison worked for the Grammy Awards Committee and was a member of AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) , SAG ( Screen Actors Guild ) and NARAS ( National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences ).
Jamison sang the background vocals on recordings by ZZ Top, Krokus , the Jeff Healey Band and numerous other artists. He has written successful songs with musicians such as Joe Walsh and was co-author and singer of the theme song for the television series Baywatch .
One year after a death, the album F4ur of the AOR music project Radioactive was released . In addition to numerous well-known musicians from bands such as Toto and Kansas , Jamison's distinctive voice can be heard again as lead singer on the first track of this album.
In Germany Jamison worked as a guest singer for the rock band Dominoe with whom he was friends and the album Nakes But Dressed, produced by Dominoe member Robert Papst . Jamison concerts in Germany were also accompanied by dominoe musicians.
