Christian Markle Straub

Christian Markle Straub (* 1804 in Milton , Northumberland County , Pennsylvania , †  June 7, 1860 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1853 and 1855 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After completing his school education, Christian Straub initially worked as a teacher, surveyor and trader. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. He became a shareholder in various railroad companies and in Williamsport's West Branch Bank . In 1842 he was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. In the same year he took over the post of prothonotary in Schuylkill County , which he held until 1849. After that he was sheriff there . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1852 Straub was elected to the Eleventh constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, where he succeeded Henry Mills Fuller on March 4, 1853 . Until March 3, 1855, he was able to complete a legislative term in Congress . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war . Between 1856 and 1858, Christian Straub was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate . He died on June 7, 1860 in the federal capital Washington.
