Dominoe is a German rock band that was founded in Grafing near Munich in 1987 by guitarist Robert Papst (born December 10, 1960 in Ebersberg) and singer Jörg Sieber (born July 13, 1961 in Ulm). The band became known in early 1988 with the title Here I Am , which the French car manufacturer Renault used in a commercial.

history

Robert Pope 1988
Jörg Sieber 1988

The members of Dominoe had their first musical experience in various student bands in the Munich area and some had known each other for more than ten years. After setting up their own recording studio, the musicians tried their hand at band names like Flick Of The Wrist and Radius in the mid-1980s , until the band Dominoe was finally formed in 1987 with the new singer Jörg Sieber . The six musicians achieved a top hit with their debut single. Thanks to the use of the song Here I Am in a television commercial by the car manufacturer Renault, which used it to advertise the Renault 5 model , it entered the German charts in early 1988, reached number 4 in February and stayed in the hit lists for three months. The Bayern rockers were touring in various European countries during this time and even appeared on French television.

With the follow- up single Let's talk about life , Dominoe could not build on their first success and only reached middle chart positions. The third single Family Man from the debut album Keep in Touch (1988) was only a respectable success.

As a result, Robert Papst left the band in 1989 and only appeared as a producer for Dominoe. For him came the guitarist Markus Schiegl. The keyboard player and background singer Angie Buchzyk then also left the band and tried her hand at a solo artist, also produced by Papst, under the name Angie Layne .

The second album The Key (1990), which was produced by Papst in collaboration with Harold Faltermeyer , also sold only moderately. After an accompanying tour, the band split up in 1991.

Singer Jörg Sieber released a solo album in 1994 under the pseudonym Jay Seever . The single That's what you're looking for was the theme song for a Hanuta commercial.

It was not until 2002 that Papst and Sieber decided on a third Dominoe album entitled No Silence ... No Lambs , which they recorded together with new musicians.

The fourth album The Story Is Far From Told was released in 2008 and was accompanied by some television appearances, such as at the ZDF TV garden , Sat.1 Hit-Giganten .

On their fifth album Naked But Dressed , which was released in 2012, guest musicians appeared for the first time, including Jimi Jamison (singer of Survivor ).

In November 2018 the sixth album The Lost Radio Show was released . It consists of recordings that Dominoe played for a UK radio show in 2008. Parts of these live recordings were lost at the time due to a hard drive crash, so that the planned radio broadcast could not be broadcast. The incomplete parts received have been archived. By chance, Robert Papst rediscovered these excerpts at the beginning of 2018. Most of the tracks recorded in 2008 were used for the album, only the parts that were really lost had to be re-recorded. Former band members and long-time musician friends of Pope's helped to supplement and complete the recordings. This is how Pope managed to capture the atmosphere of the original session with this publication. The positive response from the music scene to the first further release of Dominoe in six years was accompanied by radio and TV interviews.

Anja Blum from the Süddeutsche Zeitung reviews the album The Lost Radio Show : "The advantage of this risk-free stepping through the rock genre using catchy melodies and tried and tested harmonies is that the album can be a kind of soundtrack of their youth for a whole generation. Even who the band - beyond their hit - doesn't know, but grew up with Jon Bon Jovi, Brian Adams and Co., will have a lot of fun with "The Lost Radioshow". (...) Have the craft that is needed for it Pope and Co. never forgot anyway. The album is well produced, it keeps the balance between professionalism and authenticity with a steady hand, and the musicians leave nothing to be desired technically. "
