Reinhard Lakomy
Reinhard Lakomy (born January 19, 1946 in Magdeburg ; † March 23, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German composer , pianist , singer and arranger . His musical spectrum ranged from hits to jazz , film music and electronic music to radio plays and musicals for children. Lakomy was one of the artists with the most official publications in the German Democratic Republic, alongside the Puhdys . One of his best-known works is the children's radio play musical Der Traumzauberbaum , which he produced together with his wife Monika Ehrhardt .
Career
Lakomy received his musical training in the GDR at the Georg-Philipp-Telemann-Musikschule in Magdeburg, where he learned to play the piano and the basics of composition with Dieter Nathow. He then moved to the Dresden Music Academy . Around 1966 he became a member of the Lenz Sextet , from which the Fischer Quartet emerged a little later . Lakomy also wrote Schlager for Thomas Lück and Andreas Holm . After completing his military service in the NVA , Lakomy left the Fischer Quartet and worked in various musical directions, including: a. with a girls choir. During this time Lakomy already recorded the hits It wasn't the first time and I'm alone today , which was released as a single in 1972 . In addition to his first commercial successes, they also earned him criticism from fellow musicians who accused him of having abandoned his jazz roots.
At the same time he founded the Lakomy Ensemble, with which he could interpret his own songs. He worked with the songwriter Fred Gertz , his longtime singing partner was Angelika Mann , known as "the Lütte". In 1975 Hauff & Henkler were the first German-speaking artists to win the international Chanson Grand Prix of Paris with their composition When I saw you again today . After the release of four long-playing records, Lakomy withdrew from the active music business in 1977 because he was uncomfortable with the attention to himself. He justified this with the fact that people should listen to his music and "not buzz around the maker".
From 1978 onwards, Lakomy and his wife, the writer Monika Ehrhardt , devoted themselves to the production of children's songs and radio play musicals. The couple's most famous work is the magic dream tree . A total of 14 different productions for children were created, which were sold over 5 million times. For 13 years you wrote all the children's revues for the Friedrichstadtpalast Berlin and were involved in building up what is now the children's ensemble there. Between 1980 and 1991 Lakomy also composed and played electronic instrumental music ; as an influencer he named bands like Tangerine Dream . The first electronic album, The Secret Life , was published by Amiga in 1982 and received a devastating review in the GDR music magazine Melodie und Rhythmus . Nevertheless, Lakomy was able to sell around 100,000 copies in the GDR. The second LP Der Traum von Asgard was released in 1983 and the third album Aer in 1991 . Three other titles not yet published ( Nanga Parbat , Manege and Ein Gothic Fall ), appeared in 1991 on the sampler Looking East - East Germany . Furthermore, Lakomy has been composing film scores and soundtracks for television series such as Polizeiruf 110 since the 1970s .
In 1993 he released his album Die 6-Uhr-13-Bahn , which was published by Buschfunk . With this album Lakomy showed his view of the time after the fall of the Berlin Wall . Critics accused him of spreading GDR nostalgia with this publication . Lakomy replied that he had no longing for the real state of the GDR and called it an "oppressive state with its incompetent economic functionaries who only wanted to imitate the West".
During one of his visits to the West during GDR times, as a representative of DEMUSA and co-designer of a GDR synthesizer developed on the basis of the Z80 at the Technical University of Ilmenau in the field of “power electronics” , he met the journalist and radio presenter Rainer at the 1982 Frankfurt Music Fair W. Sauer , who shortly afterwards introduced it to Hessischer Rundfunk in his program Sounds from the Synthesizer . In 1999 the two met again in Jena, and Sauer produced two radio specials with Lakomy for Radio Jena ( In conversation with Reinhard Lakomy 2000 and It wasn't the last time 2001), in which the Berliner by choice talked about his life. His autobiography was also published in 2000 under the title It wasn't the last time ... Memories .
In 2006 he wrote the family musical Infinite and One for the Jena Planetarium . He was still touring the country with his musical programs.
On March 7, 2013, his wife Monika Ehrhardt , with whom he had the daughter Klara Johanna Lakomy (* 1984), announced that Reinhard Lakomy was suffering from an advanced lung cancer diagnosed in February 2013 , but refused chemotherapy and thus life-prolonging treatment measures. “If you can look back on such a rich life, the festival won't be more beautiful just because it lasts longer” - one of his favorite sayings. Lakomy died of cancer on March 23, 2013 at the age of 67 in his house in Berlin. On April 3, 2013 he was buried in the cemetery in Berlin-Blankenburg . His house there now houses the private Reinhard Lakomy day care center.
