Hans Breider

Hans Breider (born May 20, 1908 in Effeln , † November 22, 2000 in Würzburg ) was a German oenologist and breeder of new grape varieties .

Life

Breider studied biology and genetics at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and the Leopold Franzens University in Innsbruck . In 1935 he received his doctorate in Münster and only one year later he completed his habilitation at the TH Braunschweig .

During the time of National Socialism he was a member of the NSDAP and the SA . In 1934 Breider joined the General SS and was assigned to SS-Sturm 1 of the 49th SS standard.

From 1936 until his military service during the Second World War , he worked at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Breeding Research in Müncheberg . From 1947 to 1950 he headed the State Institute for Grapevine Breeding in Alzey in Rheinhessen .

From 1950 he initially worked for the main grapevine breeding department of the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture in Veitshöchheim ( Franconia ), from 1952 he was department director and from 1959 to 1973 he was the executive director of the institute.

During his breeding activities for grape varieties, he created numerous new varieties such as the Albalonga , Cantaro , Fontanara , Mariensteiner , Muscabona , Ortega , Perle von Alzey (here only the breeding post-processing), Sissi and Tamara .

He was married and had four children.
