Scala & Kolacny Brothers is a women's choir from Aarschot in Belgium , which consists of over 60 members, girls and young women between the ages of 14 and 24. It is run by the brothers Stijn and Steven Kolacny . The choir became known in particular through adaptations of well-known pieces of pop and rock music . About 30 to 40 of the girls and the two brothers are usually present at the performances.
history
Scala was founded in 1996. The first choir rehearsal with 18 members took place on April 2nd, 1996. Initially, the choir, led by the two pianist brothers Kolacny, was active in the field of classical music . After appearing at choir festivals and competitions, Scala was named “Choir of the Year 1999–2000” in Belgium.
With the album On the Rocks released on December 1, 2002, the choir began to interpret various well-known pop and rock songs. The arrangements of the pieces for choral singing with piano and drum accompaniment come from Steven Kolacny. The album was extremely successful and was played a lot, especially by Flemish radio stations.
Today the choir performs regularly in different countries. In the second half of 2004 alone, there were eight appearances in Germany . Steven Kolacny plays the piano on stage and Stijn conducts the choir. Scala has already given radio concerts on the German radio stations Fritz , 1 Live and Delta radio . The Kolacny brothers also perform as a piano duo without the choir.
In September 2008 the first album Paper Plane was released, which does not contain any cover versions , but only original songs by Steven Kolacny. In the same year the album Dans les yeux d'Aurore was released. It mainly contains cover versions of the Belgian singer Pierre Rapsat, who died in 2002 .
Since 2009 Scala's cover version of the MIA song Hungriges Herz has been used for a television commercial for the Volks- und Raiffeisenbanken . On June 5, 2010 Scala performed at the final concert of ! Sing - Day of Song in the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen as part of the project RUHR.2010 - European Capital of Culture . On July 15, 2010 a trailer for the Hollywood film The Social Network by David Fincher was released, which is underlaid with Scala's cover version of the Radiohead song Creep .
In 2015, the choir released its second, purely German-language album, Infinite, after Grenzlos . In 2016, Scala's song "Gorecki" was used in one of the episodes from season two of the series Gotham . The David Bowie Cover Heroes from the album Solstice is the background music for the trailer for the Hollywood film The Crazy Heroes Tour of Billy Lynn .
In 2020 the REM cover of The One I Love from the album Solstice was used in the television series The Good Doctor (season 3, episode 15).
