Regi Penxten
Regi Penxten (bourgeois Reginald Paul Stefan Penxten , born March 4, 1976 in Hasselt ) is a Belgian producer , songwriter , DJ and remixer . As a producer he is mainly active in the field of house music under the pseudonym Regi . In earlier years he was one of the most successful trance musicians in his home country . Outside of Belgium, he was best known for his involvement in the Sylver and Milk Inc. projects .
history
For the Belgian qualifications for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2006 (Eurosong for Kids) , Penxten produced the song "Ik wil je nooit meer kwijt" by Nicolas Caeyers in May 2006. The then 14-year-old Caeyers took fifth and last place in the final of the Belgian preliminary decision on October 1, 2006.
In November 2007 Penxten released his first solo album "Registrated". To do this, he worked with other Belgian artists of different musical styles, including Kate Ryan , Scala and Danzel . In Belgium, the album reached gold status for more than 10,000 copies before it was released .
In November 2007, Penxten announced that it would take part in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest for the first time with a composition . In February 2008, the formation Ellis-T, founded especially for the Eurovision Song Contest, failed with the song "My Music" composed by him in the third quarter-finals of the Belgian preliminary round .
At the beginning of April 2008 Penxten's first solo concert took place under the name "Regi In The Mix - Registered" in the Lotto Arena in Antwerp , which was sold out with 7500 visitors . Until then, Penxten had only performed as a DJ in clubs and at raves .
In the summer of 2008, Penxten composed new music for the “Blokken” game show on the Belgian television channel één . From September 2008 to August 2011 it was used as the theme song.
Since January 2009 Penxten has had his own weekly show on the Flemish radio station MNM , where he introduces and mixes the latest dance hits.
In the summer of 2009, Penxten took part in the “Respect!” Campaign by Levenslijn, a Belgian initiative for children to improve road safety. Together with Urbanus he composed and produced the song “De Zeppe & Zikki song” for the campaign. In the Flemish charts the song rose to number 2 and was awarded a gold record .
On January 31, 2010, Penxten was made an honorary citizen of his place of residence, Heusden-Zolder , because of his musical success .
In June 2010 he released his second solo album: "Registrated 2". Just like the first solo album, it was created in collaboration with international and national artists, including Kaya Jones ( Pussycat Dolls ), Tyler Connolly ( Theory of a Deadman ), Turbo B ( SNAP! ), Ray Slijngaard ( 2 Unlimited ), Katherine Ellis ( Freemasons ), VanVelzen , Katerine , Jessy and Scala. In the week immediately following its release, the album rose to the top of the official album charts from zero to number 1 and stayed there for the five following weeks.
In collaboration with Dave Till and Rudy Zensky, he released the song HIYA in May 2015 . This was released via Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike's record label "Smash the House", where they already released their joint collaboration, Momentum . The song can mainly be classified into the big room track, which was very popular at the time, and elements from hard style were also used. The successor Hey appeared a year later. Contrary to what was assumed, the song does not represent a drastic change in genre Regis, but just a kind of excursion.
Penxten released his third solo album in October 2015. The album "Voices" was again created in collaboration with artists from his home country ( Stan Van Samang , Scala) and beyond ( Patti Russo , Moya). Here he produced exclusively in the field of house music. There are tracks from the fields of progressive, electro and deep house. Many songs are the result of collaborations with Belgian and Dutch DJs ( Yves V , Mitch Crown, Sem Thomasson, Wolfpack, Dimaro, Lester Williams). You can also hear participants from vocal casting shows in which Penxten was a jury member and coach: Joke Herremy, Lea Rue, Emma Lauwers ( The Voice van Vlaanderen 2014) and Alessia ( The Voice Kids 2014). As with the previous solo album, Voices entered the album charts at number 1 immediately after its release.
