Ray Slijngaard (born June 28, 1971 in Amsterdam ; born Raymond Lothar Slijngaard ) is a Dutch rapper. With the singer Anita Doth he formed the Dutch Eurodance formation 2 Unlimited , which had some chart successes in the 1990s.

Life

Slijngaard is the only child of a Dutch mother and father who comes from the former Dutch colony of Suriname . Born and raised in Amsterdam, he formed the project 2 Unlimited with Doth, whom he knew from the Amsterdam club scene, in March 1991 at the age of 19. Slijngaard took on the role of the rapper , while Doth appeared as the lead singer - a very common constellation in the Eurodance style at the time. The duo was produced by Belgian producers Jean-Paul De Coster and Phil Wilde . Between 1991 and 1996 2 Unlimited had worldwide success and numerous hits.

After 2 Unlimited broke up in 1996, Ray turned his attention to his record label X-Ray Records / Rayvano Productions . He named the label after his son Rayvano. In 1999 he teamed up with rapper Marvin D and founded the rap group VIP Allstars. However, the duo achieved notable success only with the title Mamacita .

In 2009 2 Unlimited announced their reunion. At the “I Love The 90's Party” in Belgium, Slijngaard was back on stage after 13 years with his band colleague Anita Doth. There was also another gig on Queens Day in the Netherlands, where the two played the previous 2 Unlimited hits. Since they no longer had the rights to the band name "2 Unlimited", they performed under the name "Ray & Anita". In January 2010 the single In Da Name of Love was released , but a planned album was no longer implemented.

Ray Slijngaard now lives with his family mainly in Niederkrüchten-Elmpt .
