Arne Christian Alig (born April 8, 1968 in Hanover , † July 2, 2008 on the Croatian island of Rab ) was a German basketball player and coach.
Career
Alig went to college in the USA in 1989 , where he initially worked for a year with the Saints from the Santa Fé Community College in Gainesville (Florida) . He then played for two years with the Silverswords at Chaminade University of Honolulu in Hawaii. He was an excellent shot blocker and is one of the reasons he is on the best lists of his colleges.
During the postseason in 1990 he gained his first experience in the BBL for TTL Bamberg, for which he was then regularly in the squad after his college days in 1992. With Bamberg he reached the 1993 play-off finals and runner-up Alig. The following year, the final four in the cup and the semi-finals in the championship were reached. However, Alig was personally unable to fully meet expectations in Bamberg, so he moved to Giessen in 1994. With a one-year break in 1996/97 in Oberelchingen, he ran the rest of his active career for this club. With Giessen and Oberelchingen, however, he never got beyond the quarter-final play-offs in the championship. In 1999 the final was reached in the cup, but it was lost to Alba Berlin .
After injuries, especially to his knee, Alig moved to the coaching bench in 2000 and took over the second team of MTV 1846 Gießen in the major league, which he held after a year break in the 2nd division north at SC Rist Wedel in a double function as a coach for Gießen's cooperation partner Avitos Lich continued to look after. In 2004 he left Hessen and moved to Crailsheim within the 2nd South League.
After the end of the ProB 2007/08 , Alig suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on his summer vacation.
